Fewer FPSs would be nice. Hopefully the ridiculous obession with grizzled space marines will come to an end soon.

Also, fewer grammar mistakes! (in the thread, not games) I don't want to have to be that guy, but having seen almost everyone incorrectly say less instead of fewer I couldn't hold my tongue any longer. The curse of being the child of an english teacher.

Less crap, more fun.
Should be a little more careful mate, low content posts like that can get you on probation.

What crap are you talkin' about?

Less pandering to bad players.

I wouldn't call myself a hardcore gamer because the phrase is friggen stupid but I hate that games are making things easy so bad players don't cry about it, I want more games to actually be difficult in normal mode rather than me having to go to the hardest setting just to feel slightly challenged.

less pumping me for quarters mentality.

it took half a year for bioware to release the only dlc weapon i wanted the "incisor sniper rifle".

and then there's blizzard... thank you for taking 12 years to create a sequel to one of my favorite single player rts campaigns... wait what? you can only play as terran so far? FUCK OFF ASSHOLES!

seriously blizzard makes how much off wow? you'd think they wouldnt need to bilk the fans to make money anymore. and if it's a "time" issue... what the fuck were you DOING for 12 years?

Less 30 minute openers, if I'm not playing within 5 minutes from the start menu I find that annoying.
I hope your over-exaggerating there because I would be impressed a 30min cinematic.

Wait, you mean there are still games today that don't let you skip through cinematics?
Try Final Fantasy XII, it's like 30 mins of cutscene, some video, some rendered in game. You dont get control of a character until like 40 minutes in. In a game where story is central to the gameplay experience you dont skip the intros.
Oh yes, I remember Yahtzee going into detail in his Final Fantasy XIII review. I'm sure everyone agrees that idea should burn in a fire, just survive by an inch after most of it's skin has been burnt off, and then covered in salt.

Less of

Woman + as few clothes as they can = more health/armour/whatever.

I mean really, There are WAY too many games that just put girl chars in bra and panties and then have them killing endless swarms of whatever.
Unfortunatly sex/nudity sells, even though it doesn't seem like it has sold well lately.

Sorry about that. It's just because 'less' is the key word of this thread and I say it over and over to remind everyone.

Whoa! Just like that, hey? I some what agree but I think first person shooters are the most popular genre out of all. Aren't they?

I have to agree with less cliches, although you retracted that. Starcraft II's campaign is making me want to hurt somebody.
I didn't exactly retract it, I just felt because I'm the OP that I have to do some big to kick of the thread properly.

Also, I was thinking Starcraft 2 when I wrote that as well. Almost every fucking line is a clich'e! It's unbelievable coming from Blizzard, maybe the spent all the money of the improving the graphics?
Hardly unbelievable...that's what they thrive on.

No worries, it's an easy mistake to make. Took my parents a good few years to beat it out of me.

Just kidding. The beatings were not that frequent.

I don't remember it being that bad in their previous games.

I agree, but apparently they were planning on making the game like that a while a go.

I also agree with this but I don't think they started working on it till 2007, back when I heard about Starcraft Ghost.

A lot of these posts aren't exaclty 'on topic', I mean in the game people.

Or possibly mute Protagonists, I know we're supposed to project ourselves onto the character and whatnot, but I find that difficult since I'm not a near invincible killing machine like my character is.
This really annoys me. I wish the character would TALK.

OT: Less of a focus on multiplayer. Yes I know this is typical but it is important. Multiplayer is good and all, but it shouldn't be the MAIN focus of the game, mostly FPS'. It should be secondary to the Singpleplayer/co-op.

Less realism and bleak outlooks in games. Look, I get that in America 9/11 and the Iraq war still weighs heavily on the national consciousness, but for crying out loud can we have a game that's a bit of fun once in a while? For every Just Cause and Timesplitters that gets released we get about 10 Call of Dutys and Medal of Honours all about bleak combat as a metaphor for the US' role in world politics.

Now I think about it, could we try less America in games as well? I've lost count of how many times I've saved that country in video games and I really think it's about time we saw someone else have a go. If your execs really think the only way to appeal to your local market is to include Americans in every game you make, then what does that say about the closed mindedness of Americans as a whole? I like to think that Americans are not close minded in this way at all, but the insistence of the 'American Games featuring Americans', not to mention 'foreign TV shows remade in America so that the stupid locals will "get" it' mentality that publishers force feed the world make me wonder if they're somehow turning Americans into what they think they already are.

After all, whatever happened to just enjoying a good story/game regardless of the nationalities portrayed within? Star Wars was pretty fun, wasn't it?

Less pointless collectibles. It seems virtually every game these days has to have 100 doodads or whatever to collect and in a lot of games they're utterly pointless and are only there for achievements

Just to clarify I'm talking about the likes of the intel in Modern Warfare 1&2,the flags and feathers in Assassin's Creed 1&2,the dog tags in Gears of War etc.None of them add anything to the story or gameplay so why bother having them at all

I think RPG's should scrap the whole situation where you spend the first hour or more of a game talking to NPC's to learn the story before actually getting to any gameplay. It's fucking painful, every game should get to the fun as soon as possible, apart from the main roots of it i think the details of the story should be optional.

Oh and less pointless grinding.
Taking on sidequests or personal missions to level up before continuing the main quest = good.
Running in circles in a patch of grass = bad.

Realism about all I can think of because I play games to get away from my shitty life so I'd rather not be forced into a familiar world.

I can relate to that. I remember starting of in Golden Sun talking to most NPC's and then I finally get in a fight THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO WIN!!! That's right, me loosing to some assholes in turn based combat is story building to them. Of course I get my revenge later on but it wasn't satisfying at all since it was forced.

Confusing instructions, and or / quests that drag on forever without some sort of innovative experience.
