Less Zombies, they are in pretty much everything nowadays.
Yeah, they just suddenly became really popular, so popular even I'm sick of hearing of them.

Fanservice [read: stupidity catered to males]

No, fighting in a skin tight leotard does not make you more efficient.
Not every woman in existence is a DD.
There don't need to be 2 versions of Lightforge Armor; the normal and the bikini-mail models.

etc.

Seriously, when it's layered as thick as it is in some [most] games it really kills it.

I think games should have less timed missions. Although, I guess most games don't have many; two or three is fine. It's just when you have tons of them the intensity, that a timed mission is supposed to bring on, turns into irritation.

Emphasis on multiplayer. Seriously, I didn't get Live that long ago, and don't even use it much. I just want a decent single player experience.
Helicopter crashes. What an extremely overused plot device. I was playing SC Conviction the other day and- lo and behold- a helicopter crash. Grrrr...

I'd like to see games follow trends a whole lot less.

Remember when Max Payne introduced us to bullet time? Remember when every game made for 10 years after had a bullet time mechanic?

The one I've been noticing recently is killing the player character. CoD Modern Warfare has this amazing scene where the guy you play as in the first half of the game dies during a nuclear explosion.

Then in CoD Mod 2, it seemed they really REALLY liked that idea, and used the whole "watch yourself die" thing over and over and over and over and over again.

Without spoiling other games, I've seen it way too much in recent gaming.

One game creates something, then every other game developing studio says "oh, we want that in our game."

Video gaming hasn't been "creative" in years. Somebody makes something, then every other studio out there tries to imitate it.

That's what I'd like to see less of. Less following trends and fads.

Online play. Okay fine, have a good mulitplayer but don't make that your entire game. Put in a long storyline and plot to make me want to know how it finishes. Give it replay quality so I can play it again but differently. If you have time make a set of different endings depending on how the missions went. Don't spend so much time on the multiplayer that I get sick of the entire game in a week.

Less interruptions in a new game. A lot of RPG's do this where you're treated to some gorgeous cinematic opening after which you get control of your character. You then walk five feet and another cinematic plays out. Rinse and repeat about five times. KoToR is the worst in this. Taris is the only part of the game I don't like with Dantooine sitting on the line only by the grace of force powers. Give me a lightsaber, give me my lightening and jedi mind tricks, and let me go to town.

RPGs with any grinding at all. Speaking of which, RPGs which lack in non-magic combat. I'd like sword-based combat to involve more than watching my character automatically swing every few seconds. Sure, you can mess around with spells as a mage, but I'd like it to not be the only way to have fun during a fight.
you mean similar to Fable 1.

Scripted deaths after a particularly difficult or long mission/quest/section. Whether it's you or (possibly even worse) the person you're escorting. The worst offender by far, that I can think of right away at least, is Modern Warfare 2. The airport level...

Also, if I may, continuing from that last bit, PLOT HOLES. Little, itty bitty ones I can let scoot by. But when you're someone who's just watching the carnage of someone else's game, or you're not playing for the plot and you still go "Wait, wait, what the hell? NO!"

Realism about all I can think of because I play games to get away from my shitty life so I'd rather not be forced into a familiar world.
This.

And they need more choices for protagonist, I hate having to choose between a shaved bear or a pair of giant breasts.

It amazes me how there's so much creative potential implementing a really poor plot these days. And less FPS, of course.

Well the one thing I dislike is in a single player game and the character you're supposed to talk to keep saying stuff just repeating themselves hey you over here hey come here over here man I want to talk to you hey can you hear me now? Makes me want to slit their throats just so they will shut up. =O

Pointless romantic love interests.
This. This, this, this. In fact, I would like this to extend to ALL forms of media.

Also, getting rid of mute protagonists and being able to see my feet would also be nice.

Grinding, grinding, mother-fracking grinding. It's the reason I have never been able to enjoy an mmo, haven't been able to play a JRPG since I was young, and it has reared it's ugly head in a few other games, seemingly for no other reason than to annoy me.

EDIT- Oh, and to all the people saying "less FPS"....how about you just don't play FPS? Pretty sure there are plenty of non-FPS games out there, and I sincerely doubt any of you have ever been forced to play them.

As for my own contribution I am going to say less sandboxes. I like sandbox games but not all games need them. I like sand box games but only when they are done well like Assassin's Creed II (My GOTY 2009), inFamous (my runner-up GOTY 2009) and Red Dead Redemption (what looks to be my GOTY 2010). But then we have games like Wolfenstein and Brutal Legend which I don't think should really have been sandboxes at all.
This. I'm so tired of Sandboxes. I like a well crafted story that keeps pushing onwards. And most of the time there is nothing really exciting to do either. It's just a way to make the game longer. Brutal Legend was the most irritating. It would have worked so much better as a normal game. The sandbox element added nothing but frustration.

Also how has there not been a Zombie based Sandbox game yet? The genre lends itself perfectly.

Edit- And yes, my picture is from Darkstalkers. Another unnecessary sandbox.

health meters. there's nothing quite as amazing as barely eeking out and existence and running as fast as you can through a group of enemies so you can grab the health pack that they are guarding.
You mean more health meters? This is the less of thread mate.

You do make a good point though, and I dislike it in some games with the regenerating life that all this crap covers your vision when your near death, less of that cause it's really annoying.
Oh come on dude, don't you love just crouching behind a crate and just waiting for the jelly to drip off your face? I know that's why I get up in the morning.

OT: Less focus on online multiplayer
