What do you think games should have less of?

Got the idea from the 'games should have more of' thread, duhh

Less clichés during expensive cinematics would make me happy. Nah that's too easy. I'll think of something good.

Edit: How about less sterotypes? Do those characters actually entertain anyone besides children?

I can do better than that. C'mon, think brain.

I'd say less cinematics and less hype over online gaming, eg in Crackdown 2, I have to team up over XBL to collect a special orb that can only be collected when teamed up with someone. It's stupid.

health meters. there's nothing quite as amazing as barely eeking out and existence and running as fast as you can through a group of enemies so you can grab the health pack that they are guarding.

edit: Oops, regeneration I mean. it's still early in my time zone.

Less of a multiplayer focus. So many games are so focused on online gaming that they don't care about the single player. I understand some games every so often, like L4D, but games like MW2 put so much focus on co-op of vs. that the single player suffers.

You mean more health meters? This is the less of thread mate.

You do make a good point though, and I dislike it in some games with the regenerating life that all this crap covers your vision when your near death, less of that cause it's really annoying.

Street fighter-Its hard for a little kid to play at first.
Your 100% right about the difficulty but what do want less of in the game?

This. Although I find that Crackdown 2 and Lost Planet 2 serve as a better example of single player gaming suffering. MW2 still had a story with twists and characters (all badly written mind but at least they were there).

As for my own contribution I am going to say less sandboxes. I like sandbox games but not all games need them. I like sand box games but only when they are done well like Assassin's Creed II (My GOTY 2009), inFamous (my runner-up GOTY 2009) and Red Dead Redemption (what looks to be my GOTY 2010). But then we have games like Wolfenstein and Brutal Legend which I don't think should really have been sandboxes at all.

Instakilling enemies in singleplayer. It's really stupid in singleplayer because the only way you can survive them is by trial and error. And reloading a checkpoint fifty times because some sniping asshole is hidden somewhere gets really frustrating. What's even more annoying is not having checkpoints at sensible spots. If you give me a checkpoint system, atleast make it give checkpoints after a major fight.

I haven't played those two, but I know what you mean. My point with MW2 was that, due to the focus of the other aspects like Spec-ops and Multiplayer, the campaign was very short. Of course, in games like Crackdown 2, there just is no story, but then again Crackdown 1 didn't have much of one either. That was more "Go here, kill him" missions instead of a story.

But I agree on Sandboxes. One of the reasons I loved Alan Wake was because it was focused. It wouldn't have been any better if you could just run around the forest for hours, getting lost and confused as you play a mini-game to unlock the next story mission.

Less emphasis on co-op. Nothing Few things annoys me more than playing a mediocre game like Lost Planet 2 or Crackdown 2, and people say "Oh, it's good if you're playing co-op". None of my friends own a 360 so I can't do that, and it would be nice if the game would still be fun without it.

Well, having one before is good. Having one after is even better, since getting instakilled after a major fight is even worse, since you have to replay the major fight and survive the instakiller.

Street fighter is rated T for teen. Meaning you probably shouldn't be playing it if your younger then 13. on top of that there is multiple difficulty levels. If one mode is too hard for you go to an easier mode to play the game learn the combo system and multiple attacks and combos you can do for a character then play on higher level's of difficulty instead of whining. If you don't want to do that then go don't buy them. Play modern warfare 2 halo and some of the other boring easy games which require little more thought process then that of an infant and leave the other real games alone.
P.S. Games also need Less of FPS more of over the top/third person view hack and slash or beat em ups. I do enjoy FPS but every other game over the last 4 years have been a basic lack luster rehash of an older fps game. More adventure. More beat em up. LESS FPS and also Less regenerating health. Bring back the health bar and the HUD. I miss them terribly

I think games need less cowbell.

Seriously though, I think we need less war sims. I'm not sure the morbid fascination everyone has with a war that resulted in the genocide of 12 million people by a single country alone, but is this really the kind of thing we want to glorify?

I'd have to say the grind. Whether it be for money/experience/etc.
I think I know where your coming from, but the grind is not really an issue in most modern MMO's because there are more than enough quests to keep you occupied till the final level, just like in WOW and Aion. Unless you mean quests that require you to kill a shit load of mobs for 100 necklaces or some crap like that.
