Well it's been about 5 years since she dissappeared, and no leads.

What do you think actually happened? Will we ever find out?

The girl is most likely dead

Children that go missing in that fashion very rarely turn up again, turning up alive, even less so.

I dunno.
Hey Maddy, get out of the basement, people want to talk to you.
No?
Fine, stay in there then.

Eh, chances are nobody will ever be too sure.

I reckon the parents had something to do with it. I still don't get why there was such a massive deal over it. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a bad thing, but she's not the first little girl to go missing and they went on about it forever...

I'd second that.

It was a terrible thing, to be sure, but the world is full of terrible things, she got more than her fair share of attention. The media could have run a campaign about something more important people could actually do something about (though that line gets thrown around far too often).

Additionally...there are other little kids that go missing, who are deemed not worthy to get that sort of attention, that would seem to be considered unimportant and forgettable.

I may be deemed a monster but... I hope she is dead.
I would much rather the young girl be dead than go through the the horrors she could possibly go through with whoever has taken her. Rumour has it she could have been taken for some kind of pedophile ring... If she was just lost and wandering around then she would have been picked up by now.

That or her parents know something more but I won't say anymore on that subject.
That & they live down the road from me.

She's most likely dead by now, I can't see any real way she could still be alive after 5 whole years. We still haven't caught anyone in regards to it though, so really it's all just a guessing game.

Probably dead, or worse, slipped into some sort of human trafficking.

Still, admittedly, it'd be wierd if she surfaced like 10 years later. God knows what she would have been through. What kind of person emerges from that?

Unfortunate as it is, she is dead, she was dead a long time ago, as soon whoever took her found out about the media manhunt she was probably either abandoned or killed. Assuming she even lasted that long.

Unless the kidnapper developed 'Lima Syndrome' for her (captor falling in love with their captive) I doubt she lasted very long at all

No, no, she's not dead, she's restin'!
But seriously, probably shuffled off her mortal coil, pushing up daisies, kicked the bucket etc...
It's been five years now, so I'm saying nothing new on the matter.

I think she must have been killed. I think she was killed shortly after being taken. Either that or she has been brainwashed by the one who took her into thinking that they are her parent. That or the parents know more but haven't said anything. Still, even if they did find her, could you imagine what sort of state she would be in? She would have a very long recovery process to get over that.

I?d say there?s a 70% chance she was killed by either her parents and/or someone else, and a 30% chance she?s been trafficked in the child sex trade.

Statistics say that she's most likely dead. Very few abducted children have been found alive after more than a few months missing.

After 5 years, it's unlikely they'll even find her body now.

With the amount of media coverage her picture got, I don't think it's likely she's been kept alive anywhere. Which is probably for the best.

Bloody hell, this is a black conversation...

I can tell you one thing, they sure wanted to capitalise on the little girl's disappearance by writing a book about it...

Didn't they use money from the charity to find her to pay their insurance as well or something?

EDIT: Yes, yes they did. And continue to do so.

What is the money being spent on?
The Fund is supporting the McCann family during their search for Madeleine and in ensuring a high profile of Madeleine?s abduction is maintained. Money spent to date has been on:

supporting the private investigation to find Madeleine;
ongoing public awareness raising ;
establishing and updating the website ;
family expenses; and,
professional fee, including concerning international law on child abduction and the costs of setting up the Fund
The directors continue to review the future strategy of the Fund to ensure effective use of the funds
Turns out it isn't a charity, it's a company, so they can spend it on whatever they damn well please.

This site has some interesting little bits:

She's probably long dead. As much as I'd like her to be found alive and well, if she was alive, she'd have been found long ago

Sad as it makes me to say, she's probably passed away by now. Most child abductions result in death after 24 hours, so the odds of her being found alive after five years are astronomical.

It's such a shame that this happens, especially to children. The very thought of a parent caring for and loving their child for years and then just losing him or her one day is terrible.

And now I feel all sad inside. :(

When it first happened I thought "human trafficking" and I still do but I hope for her sake shes dead.

That feels quite weird to say "I hope for her sake shes dead", in any other context that would be awful but in this one it's the truth
