I prefer refractory, myself. You hear these losers talking about their aluminum and iron alloys, and you know they just got into it. I'm talking about Niobium and Silicon and Tungsten, son, not some puny rubbish. Titanium, Chromium, Molybdenum, fool. You know you can't step to those. And don't even pretend you can lay down like Halfnium and Tantalum, you little--

What?

Music? Oh. My mistake. No, I can't help you there. Music isn't my highest interest.
Made me laugh anyway!

Power metal. Dragons and vikings EVERYWHERE.
yeah but amon amarth have always given vikings the greatest amount of justice
I prefer Rebellion's Sagas of Iceland and Miklagard. Historical references, plus it actually sounds like what I imagine a viking singing would be. I'm not much of a fan of Amon Amarth, really.
have you ever heard tyr?

Amon Amarth is really just a power metal band that does growl vocals. Most of there songs aren't just noise, it follows easy melody of power metal bands like Hammerfall and Manowar.

That said, my favorite sub-genre of metal is either Power Metal, or Symphonic Metal. (<3 Therion)
amon amarth... manowar... powermetal? BLASPHEMY!!!

It's all personal, so I'll go with: Power Metal, Black, Doom and Progressive

I listen mostly to melodic death metal. Over the summer I saw Children of Bodom, In Flames and Amon Amarth live. That was one hell of a summer.

Likely black metal, for the diverse range of approaches to it bands can take.

Failing that, "progressive" metal..

My CD collection stated that I have equal amounts of all. I'd probably say Melodic Death, Metalcore, and Deathcore though.

Anyone who said any core other than grindcore needs to promptly go fuck them selves.
Stoner Metal, Grindcore, Black Metal, Doom Metal, Viking Metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal and Sludge Metal is pretty much all i listen to, ever.

For me, as far as my favorite genres go, are Symphonic (or Orchestral if you will), Folk, and Power Metal. I like hearing traditional metal instrumentation with a bit of the non-traditional, preferably orchestral arrangements.
pretty much what this guy said, my favorite old school metal bands are Iced Earth(favorite band of all time, especially during Matt Barlow's reign) and Iron Maiden, and Power metal like Lost Horizon, Dragonforce, etc, are in my not-so-humble opinion the evolution of that sound. The operatic feeling of epic tales and empowering energy in the songs make it hard for me to understand why someone couldn't enjoy metal.

I just looked them up. Thanks for the recommendation, I'm off to learn Icelandic so I can try and join a war band.
