This to me is metal in its most organic form:

C'mon ya'll, post your music. SOPA and IP haven't outlawed it yet. Live in the moment. =P

Um... non-metalhead here... Exactly what is classed as "metal"? Does industrial count? If so, I'm going with that.

The Agalloch subgenre. Seriously, I don't know how else to describe them. They totally changed how I saw all of music.

How would you describe that?

Hardcore and crust punk. Not technically subgenres of metal, but are basically the point where punk rock touches it.

For actual metal subgenres, I'd have to say death and symphonic.

Depends what you mean by industrial. If you mean industrial like SPK and Throbbing Gristle, then no, that's not metal. If you mean industrial metal that gets called "industrial" like NIN, or Rammstein, or KMFDM, then yes, that's metal.

Whatever genre A7X falls under. Actually, that's a bit confusing because A7X has 2 totally different styles (Sounding the Seventh Trumpet-Waking the Fallen, the other ones). I love both styles.

I second that!
a7x :)

I would have to say metalcore. August Burns Red, Asking Alexandria, love those bands.

Favorite band right there.

Symphonic.

Sweeping orchestral movements, full Latin choirs, deep sophisticated growls, and heavy guitars all combine to become awesome.

i prefer post metal. bands like ISIS and Intronaut are really great imo. i also am loving experimental metal, stuff like Neurosis and actually most bands on the Neurot Recordings label are quite good and unique. on another note Mastodon kicks ass. Especially Leviathan.

Neue Deutsche Härte, the only exceptional band is Rammstein, but they're so good they make the genre worth it.

A Capella! Duh...

In all seriousness though, I personally like good old fashion power metal. But I'm old so hey...why not get the fuck off my lawn?

YES! I <3 Folk Metal.

Here's further proof.

Notice how eloquently this guy dressed in medieval attire exits an outhouse whilst playing a fiddle

Edit: Also, I love how that one guys sole purpose is to hit a single drum. Priceless.

Edit 2: The Electric boogaloo

I generally don't get involved in this kind of discussion because, quite frankly, I like nearly every genre of metal I've ever come across. I really hate the heated discussions and insults I see thrown around online. Seems like every metal song on youtube has annoying genre discussions in the comments. If people took a look on my Metal Pandora station they'd see every genre represented, from old fashioned heavy metal like Running Wild, Anvil, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest to modern day Deathcore, thrash, melodic death Metal bands like Dark Tranquility, power metal like Dragonforce and Avantasia, etc etc etc etc. Pretty much every subgenre of metal is represented in my musical tastes.

If I absolutely HAD to pick a favorite I'd probably pick melodic death metal, especially the sort that comes from overseas with bands like Amorphis, Dark Tranquility, In Flames (though its debatable whether they are STILL melodeath these days), Amon Amarth, etc.
