Okay guys, Power Metal is best, I'm sorry, and Blind Guardian is better than all of those other bands. Oh, and can't forget Gamma Ray, I don't listen to them often, but Hansen's awesome so it's K.

Nightwish is symphonic, yes?

If so, that. If not, whichever genre you deem them to be in. :p

(Although I'm not really a "metalhead" as the only two real metal bands I like are Nightwish and Tarot, so...yeah.)

For me, as far as my favorite genres go, are Symphonic (or Orchestral if you will), Folk, and Power Metal. I like hearing traditional metal instrumentation with a bit of the non-traditional, preferably orchestral arrangements.
whos your favorite in folk metal?
I'm not sure as I haven't heard a lot of it. As far as bands of the other genre's go, I greatly enjoy Nightwish, Angra, and Darkmoor

anything made by these fine young people and their totally not awkward music and video

I don't listen to metal but a lot of metalheads take themselves so seriously it's hard not to laugh.

The Agalloch subgenre. Seriously, I don't know how else to describe them. They totally changed how I saw all of music.

How would you describe that?
That'd be folk metal with black metal influences.

Anyway, I'd have to go with black metal, death metal and doom metal.

Lately i've really been gravitating towards slamming grindy death metal
Unfortunately i don't know of much of that general type, do you?

Feel the vibe:

Someone said that Bolt thrower doesn't need complexity or technicality, they have BALLS
Especially the bassist

If I were forced to choose?

I enjoy a fair number of sub-genres, but symphonic, power, and progressive are probably my favourites. Orchestral I didn't mention because it and symphonic are essentially the same thing - neo-classical is also face-meltingly awesome. I suppose the main reason I enjoy them is because they (in my view of things) require more talent and skill than other genres, and are more complex. That complexity is really appealing to me, because I can listen to songs like this ten times over and still find new elements to focus on. That, and the fact that the lyrics are mostly understandable and generally have some actual fucking meaning behind them, as opposed to being nonsensical pig squeals.

Yes, it's ten minutes long. You will thank me for this when you hear it in full.

I honestly think that about 90% of my music is made by bands from Finland. And I love it!

When I was a youth I was into metal (before I took myself on my own musical path) and the only sub-genre I will still listen to is Power Metal.

I generally favour Symphonic,Power and Folk Metal. Sometimes a little bit of Gothic Metal, but not much.
