I will admit, one of the saddest things to this day for me.....is from Final Fantasy VII.

HOWEVER!

IT IS NOT AERIS' DEATH!
I got over that soon enough. What made me even more sadder, because I always liked Tifa more to be honest, was the last part of her and Cloud in the Lifestream where she remembers the day her mother died.
The song that plays is....so simple but so sad, it tugs at my heart to this day.

When Alyx got stabbed by a hunter. I was surprised at how upset I was.
Me too! I was surprised how i attached I became to her. If only she had her hair down, maybe she would be a little hotter..

I remember that the game that's come closest to driving me to tears was Psychonauts. A few of the emotional vaults can be downright depressing, even though you don't have to bust them. I found the one about Milla the levitation teacher's kids and the fire, and I swear I almost cried. It was the nightmare box with all of their whispers that drove me over the edge.

"It's burning, Milla. Help us, Milla. Milla?" Creepy.

Maybe that just makes me weird. Then again, a lot of stuff in that game was surprisingly messed up...

Strangely...

Bard's Tale (PS2 release) when his dog dies.

There's something touching about how even the bard can barely maintain... dignity after it happens.

And that's why Psychonauts is one of the most underrated games ever.

The saddest moment is when you see the ending credits the same day you bought the game.

Agreed, the ending to FFX was a real tear jerker for me. Another game moment out of a FF was in VI, when you find out the motivation behind Locke's quest for the phoenix magicite, and the cutscene when you bring the esper back to Kohlingen. Forever Rachel is one of the saddest themes...(

Admittedly for me Aeris' death brought on more rage than sorrow at that moment. Striking down from behind a defenseless woman attempting to save the world? Now that just pushes the righteous vengeance buttons in me. The sadness only came with the scene where Cloud buries her in the lifestream.

However for me the saddest moment came in "Elder Scrolls: Oblivion" during the Assassin guild quests when you were assigned to purge the entire stronghold. No one else in the world welcomed me with such warmth as the Assassins but I had my orders. Then Lucien himself gets shanked offscreen and tortured horribly to boot. It only hit me when I cut down the traitor that all of this was unnecessary. If Lucien only decided to investigate further rather than let his paranoia take over...

Carmine dying in Gears of War 2! Not Carmine... AGAIN!!!!111one

No, not actually, but probably when Dom finds his wife in Gears 2. I think it may have been the first game to make my eyes wet a tiny bit. I didn't cry though, I don't get that into it.
Definitely a very sad moment

I've said it a thousand times on this forum but I'll say it again, the ending of Silent Hill 2 always make me cry. Only game to have done so. Though The Darkness came close when
Jenny is shot

*SPOILERS*

Eli's Death in HL2: Ep2.

Or perhaps realising that to have Fawkes AND Charon on your team, you need to kill Dogmeat. ;(

Noooeeez! Can't you just send him to Vault 101? I did that right after I met him, couldn't stand seeing the little doggie die, especially since I was going to Minefield.

Any moment a character that I got attached to, either played by me or the computer, dies, I do quite often find myself just starting at the screen, trying to get my head around what just happened. If it's a really well done character, I die a little inside.

I'm surprised no one said Final Fantasy 7 yet.
Yeah I know, I was sure I was going to find some bleeding heart fan-girl say something like "OMG I was soooo sad when Aerith dies."

I don't know why people even write it like that. The original game clearly says "Aeris" with an "S" and a "th" at the end. Saying it like that makes you sound like like you have a lisp.
Personally, I thought Aeris dying was one of the BEST moments in the game.. I HATED her! Cloud is cuter with Sephiroth! Evil is MUCH hotter.
