I think the most emotional moment had to be
Isara's death in Valkyria Chronicles and then later when Rosie sings that song I actually did cry.

Otherwise Shadow of the Colossus the whole game was emotional between killing these Colossi that don't seem to be doing anything wrong other then living and watching those sad eyes as you kill them is always emotional.

There are more but these two stand out in my mind.

***umm, quite a few spoilers (BIA: Road to Hill 30 and CoD4)***

Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 certainly had its share of sad moments. Every time a squad member died, I felt a combination of guilt and remorse at their passing. The deaths of Allen and Garnett were particularly gut-wrenching. I started sobbing when Matt Baker came unglued recounting the event.
Amen, brother. BIA were probably the most emotional games I ever played. I've never actually cried in a movie, book, or game (at least not since i was like 5) but I really might have in Road to Hill 30 if I, you know, had tear ducts and wasn't such a man.

Other contenders are when Gaz dies in CoD4 (he never really spoke much, but actions speak louder than words - I apologize for the gayness of that statement and this whole post, in fact), and, I hate to say it, but the endings of Halo 1 and 3 were emotional times - I know the story and characters sucked balls, but somehow the games just felt so epic, I really was filled was a sense of grandeur and also of loneliness. Go figure

And at the end of Shadow Of The Collossus. Wander goes through the whole game, kills all the Collosi, just to save his girl, and then gets screwed over. It did lead up nicely to Ico.

The whole
Eli
getting killed at the end of
Half-Life 2: Episode 2
by
an advisor
due to
a proboscis to the neck
thing was pretty sad.

Edit: did they figure out how it was gonna go down through a mad-lib? It really seems like it now.

um, i've got to say... Call of Duty World at War.
No specific point in the game, just the game itself.
We've been through WWII before, Nazi Zombies can be easily recreated in a much more fun version in Gears 2 (you get a chainsaw, need i say more?), and the multiplayer was pretty much a dimmed down version of Modern Warfare. If there's any game that makes you realize you're only playing it coming off the High of the previous... it would be WaW.

PS: I nearly cried when Gaz died in COD4.

The end of the lower difficulties of Shadows of the Empire on N64. I think I actually yelled, "Nooooooooooooooo! Did he make it?"

Or anytime Slippy dies.

The original God of War. Let me explain.

You've come all this way through all this crap to give Aries what's coming to him, even beaten him up personally in collosal proportions. He even wins out against hordes of his own dark nature incarnate, after Aries traps Kratos inside his own head forcing him to protect the imago of his already dead wife and child; and after he has, after he won out against himself, thinking he's achieved something, thinking that he's changed, thinking he could forgive himself, Aries takes Kratos's blades and kills them again, inside his memory.

That's so deliciously tragic.

The saddest moment in any game is defiantly
When my dog is shot by Lucien in Fable 2.
This moment literally almost made me cry, yeah I'm not ashamed to admit it. But it all ended up ok in the end.
The dog in Fable 2 is nothing compared to Dogmeat in Fallout.
No joke! I couldn't keep him alive at all and I was constantly repeating battles because I couldn't bear to see him die.

This is possibly the saddest thing I have ever heard. I am sorry for you loss.

Old moments but still sad otherwise...

<spoiler=Final Fantasy Tactics Spoiler> The overall ending with Orlandu dying at the Airship Graveyard. And then Delita getting stabbed by his wife and then having to kill her. Overall that sudden realization before death that he had no one to trust and had become the thing he despised the most. That was was rather depressing.

<spoiler=Chrono Trigger Spoiler> The sudden realization that by saving the future Robo will no longer have free will. Also Frog's overall story and the fact that generally he never gets his revenge because Magus is to much of a team asset to let the sword fighter have it. Also after the Floating Island falls and Magus goes in time, but that whenever you go back with him his cat will follow him around.

<spoiler=Final Fantasy Spoilers In General> In Four, Palom and Parom sacrificing themselves to stop the crushing wall by turning into Stone and then resisting the soft, turning them into statues forever. In Six, Cyan's family taking the Phantom Railroad to the next world
