I live in Adelaide and there's plenty to do. Fringe is on right now, if you can't find stuff to do here at the moment you're blind or you're just not looking.
The Fringe doesn't really interest me though. And my eyesight is pretty bad actually...
Guess so. But there's still tons to do in Adelaide. I've never understood people who were bored with the place and moved. In fact with high-density housing choking Sydney and Melbourne by way of restricting entertainment activities due to noise, Adelaide's going to have the most active nightlife of the country. It's already way ahead of Sydney in that regard.
Wow, more Adelaideians than I expected. That's cool. Anyway, the Fringe, will be over in no time, and we'll be back to "need something to do in Adelaide!"

Anywho, I live in Australia and am very happy with it, best country in the world IMO. And my thoughts completely go out to any Queenslanders on these forums, or people who have family there.

I had an Australian friend who made me love it. Especially Canberra. But...honestly, I'd be much too afraid to visit it. With the amount of critters out there looking to kill you and all the natural disasters and with me being...well me, I'd be dead as soon as I'd get off the plane.

Awesome place to visit, either short term or long term. But I would never live there. Why, you ask? The motherfrickin edited games, that's why! I think it's stupid. I live in America, but I bought the UK version of The Witcher cause I wanted my game unaltered from the creator's original intent. Is it all about boobies and gore? Not always, but I detest censorship and artistic alteration. Australia looks badass, believe me, but until the old farts in charge of your video game import laws die off and have their work undone, I will not be living there.

I love Australia and have huge national pride for where i live ^_^. Although we have experienced some heavy natural disasters, but thats nothing compared to the 5 great drop bear wars.

Man, I fucking love the Fringe Festival. I'm driving with a mate up from Melbourne this sunday to get some new seats for his car, will it still be on?

OT: Gotta say, I do love Australia. Not in a bogany 'get-the-southern-cross-tattoed-on-ya-back' kind of way, but more in the sense that I just love the attitude, humor and general laid-backness of Auzzies. With what has happened to New Zealand this week, I'm glad we're smack dab in the middle of a tectonic plate too.
Wish we weren't getting ripped off with game prices tho. :/

I think it's great. Melbourne's the best city in my opinion. Federation Square, Flinder's Street, Eureka Tower...

Please don't look at where I live.

Hardly. Adelaide has such a freakishly large amount of stuff on at any given moment that I usually have to miss out on shit I want to do because it conflicts with other shit I want to do. I don't know where people get the utterly bizarre perception that Adelaide is quiet, it isn't and never has been as long as I've been living here. I will concede that it's a bit hard if you're under 18 though, but once you hit 18 there's so much shit to do you couldn't possibly do it all.

I have always liked Australia. The countries history intrigues me and I love the vast open spaces. I am particularly interested in the aboriginal people. My main problem with the country is the governmental system. The entire purpose of a government is to represent the will of the people, and the attorney generals seems to be in direct opposition to this, being able to stall and revoke ideas favoured by the majority of the populace if just one of them disagrees.

It's lucky we have a fairly decent free Health Care system then!

I think when we're talking about your deadly animals, we tend to exaggerate numbers to the point of an obscene hyperbole.

I really do want to spend some time in Australia. I'd probably come down during late February, and leave in April. Then I'd want to try it again in September for Spring.

This thread beat the America one with the fact that your not asking the impressions from another countries, but individuals instead.

I believe there's an animal called platypus (ornitorhynchus anatinus) living in the southeast coast of Australia. A very peculiar mammal in the way that it lays eggs, the male platypus have venomous spurs and the species looks rather extraordinary.[footnote]That's the most I remember by heart about any animal. I'm not entirely sure if all of that is entirely correct, though.[/footnote]

My feelings of spoken Australian English change from very annoying to interesting.

Never been to there, but not opposed to the thought of visiting.

In all seriousness though I don't why people always talk about "everything is trying to kill you". Maybe if you live in the middle of the bush or the middle of the desert, but in the city or suburbs, there aren't many cassowaries or taipans to be found.

Plus we have so many cute animals, like Kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, platypus, possums, koalas, echidnas, bandicoots, numbats and many more.

If anyone is actually thinking about visiting Australia but is worried about the spiders, come to Perth. Funnel-webs and the few other nasties that you could actually run into in a city are all in the eastern states. Western Australia is far more arachnaphobe-friendly.

Australians and us are mates, no question. As soon as the floods and cyclones hit Australia NZ was imediately offering support. Our Government even donated $5m straight away to the relief effort. When Christchurch was hit by an earthquake yesterday imediately Australia offered support and, wouldn't you know it, $5m. The best bit was that it was in Australian dollars. :D

Seriously though, despite some animosity, jokes and sporting rivalries I'd say there would be very few countries as close as NZ and Australia.

I met a guy who ended up with a broken arm from a Kangaroo, don't try to fool me. It was totally his fault that his arm got broken, but it happens sometimes.
