Australians and us are mates, no question. As soon as the floods and cyclones hit Australia NZ was imediately offering support. Our Government even donated $5m straight away to the relief effort. When Christchurch was hit by an earthquake yesterday imediately Australia offered support and, wouldn't you know it, $5m. The best bit was that it was in Australian dollars. :D

Seriously though, despite some animosity, jokes and sporting rivalries I'd say there would be very few countries as close as NZ and Australia.
Definitely. A lot of jokes, but it's all in good spirit. An Aussie and a Kiwi bump into each other in Europe, and they'll have each others backs. Not to mentions the renowned ANZACs. Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.

My opinion? Well, I live in the nation's capital, so I may be a bit biased. During my nation-spanning travels, I've always managed to find that perfect spot in each city. You know, the one where it's peaceful, beautiful, filled with trees and small cafes. The place you can walk around and not need a destination. That's what I love about this place. And Aussies generally have an air of accessibility to them, but there are definitely exceptions.

I also feel that we're way over-represented on these fine forums.

Edit: Oh, and I guess from a gamer's perspective, you'll have a very biased view of Australia. Trust me, the gaming thing isn't that bad. Not that many countries let a 15 year old buy an un-edited version of AVP2010.

I've never been to Australia, but i've always wanted to be able to speak australian, they way they talk amuses the hell out of me..

Also, they seem like very friendly and homorous people..

Though thinking of all the different kinds of bugs, animals and reptiles that can kill you in terrifying manners, makes me sometimes wonder how people can survive there at all..
Maybe i watch to much animal planet?!

I met a guy who ended up with a broken arm from a Kangaroo, don't try to fool me. It was totally his fault that his arm got broken, but it happens sometimes.
Did he piss off the kangaroo? They're pretty easy to provoke, but can you really blame them? If you go up to some random dude and start attacking his child then you'll get the same response.

The difference is kangaroos are more cute than most humans...and stronger, and faster, and more athletic...

Did Animal Planet happen to mention that most animals are found in the wild and not in the middle of the city? trust me if you visit a city or the suburbs you won't find much crocodiles wandering down the street.

To be honest i would like Australia but A) I'm an extreme arachnophobic and thinking burning most of Australia to destroy the spider menace is a good idea and B) I'm a fan of cracked.com and they may have slightly coloured my opinion of Australia as all that is terrifying.

Nice to live in I guess but the government is full of tards.
This. Our politicians are probably the fakest and most useless in the world. They try way to hard to have a good image whilst not really doing all that much really. But having said that Australia is one of the best places to live. I don't reckon I could ever leave it.

I'm an Aussie and for the most part I really quite like it here. I have only the 'occasional' (see: nigh-perpetual) disapproval of NSW state government policy from both major parties, which is going to make the upcoming election rather interesting.

Then there's the occasional snake or scorpion that wanders into my house (we leave to back door propped open for the dog).

Then there's the wildly inconsistent ratings board that lets AVP2010 through unedited but forces the censoring of L4D2 to the point where it's unplayable.

It seems like a more extreme version of England with cooler accents. Kinda like nerdy England's cool little brother or nephew.
...Still, I'll stick it out with the nerd. Still love to visit though.

I'm from Hobart, so I think I beat all the Adelaide dwellers on the 'not much to do' front. And as for Australia's reputation of having every dangerous killing thing known to man, come visit here in Tasmania, I mean yeah we have two of the three most venomous snakes on earth.. but it's too cold here for them to show up much.

I like Australian people, just not the government.. all that censuring and "we know what's best for you, just be quiet"-style really bugs me.

EDIT: I'm Swedish, so obviously my knowledge of Australian people is pretty much limited to the occasional tourist. Which aren't many.. Damn you Australia, why don't you visit more often? :(
Well, I can recomend Perth or Melbourne if you're gonna visit.

OT: I love it here. Although it does get annoying when I go back to Sweden and people ask me: 'Do you speak English in Australia?'

If he annoyed the kangaroo, then he got off lightly with just a broken arm. Those claws on the hind feet are nasty.

And don't try to get near a koala in the wild, they may look cute but they will claw your face off if they're in a bad mood.

Seeing as there has been a few "What do you think of America?" threads, I decided to make a "What do you think of Australia?" thread.

I personally think it's a great place to live but that's probably because I do live here. Just need something to do in Adelaide!

I live in Adelaide and there's plenty to do. Fringe is on right now, if you can't find stuff to do here at the moment you're blind or you're just not looking.
Wow first 2 posts from Adelaide...? I don't think I've ever met another person from SA on here in 2 years...

Unless you have the money to spend on entry and alcohol, the Fringe gets pretty boring - as a uni student, I barely have enough to support myself. Not like my job over pays me or anything...

Other than that I love Australia, just wish there was more International Cricket on in Adelaide every year and that Lions played here on a day when I didn't have to play football myself... Oh I hate our internet... When will this fucking NBN be up?

Indeed, if you hit a big Red on the highway your car will be mangled, even a bull-bar will barely halp.

England gave birth to two countries.

One of these births was Australia which was like England's love child, that always got hugs and kisses, and was really cared for.

The other was America which was like England's demented child that was dropped down the stairs, and was chained up in the basement all day, forever tormented.

That pretty much sums everything up.
