Level Scaling - FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU- In the beginning of the game, it took three hits to kill a zombie. Makes sense. It's a zombie. Rotted flesh isn't exceptionally durable. Now it takes over 10 hits to kill a single Walker, even though my weapons are literally about 30x better than the Paddle you start with. I've stopped fighting enemies at all, really. Run over a bunch of zombies to get full Rage, then avoid everything until forced into a fight, pop Rage, and move on. (I'm playing Purna with level 3 Rage, so a single Rage can easily clear a room of multiple Floaters/Thugs/Rams/etc)

Arbitrary ammo limits - I don't see why you can carry around about 500lbs worth of items, but GOD HELP YOU if you try to carry more than 50 pistol rounds without Purna's upgrades. It's not even like the handguns are that powerful. Can't really complain about the other two guns, though. (I wasted my only Shotgun shell, and the assault rifle was actually pretty badass.)

Lack of a persistent world - I remember smashing through a door, running into the next room, ran smack into two Thugs, then attempted to retreat to the room I just came through. But the door had respawned...Yeah. That was wonderful.

Damage - WHY DO THE ZOMBIES DO % BASED DAMAGE? It makes having more health a pain in the ass. I literally have to down 20 items to get back up to full health. Also, they do way too much damage. I'll go from full to one bar left in about three seconds, but I'll run around with that one bar for a while because it's the only one that regenerates. `-` Honestly, this is one of the few games where I wouldn't care if it had regenerating health.

Lack of knockback - Like the OP said, it's annoying when an Infected can take three sledgehammer hits to the face and keep slapping you around without even slowing down at all.

SWAT/Police Zombies - `-` They have like infinite health. The SWAT Thug was even worse. Jesus, that thing took a grenade explosion at point blank and kept going.

Punks - Why do they all have guns? ALL OF THEM. Shouldn't guns be...iunno...rarer? I'd have felt better if most of them used melee. `-`

Kicking - Kicking should do more damage. Only because I hate being forced to sit there and kick a zombie in the face 250 times just to kill a single Walker, but I can't use my weapons because durability is a precious thing.

Buggy Autosave - I lost two chapter's worth of progress. Yeah. SO MUCH RAGE.

Glitching spawns - I've had a zombie spawn inside of the building that I needed to kill all of the zombies to enter. So I couldn't enter. I had to join someone else's game and quest with them until they finally reached where I was.

Imbalanced skill trees - It works like this. Specialize in Survival: You're fucked. Specialize in Rage: You're fucked 70% of the time, one-man army 30% of the time. Specialize in Combat: You are a Golden God of Death.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game, but it's pretty rage inducing at times.

Can anyone else confirm this? Those sound like pretty fundamental design flaws in a game.

beyond the level scaling(Which I wouldn't mind if loot scaled) my main complaint atleast thus far there hasn't been a "OH BALLS A HORDE GET TO THE CAR GET TO THE CAR" moment it has always been a choice of fight it now or later I want to have to run to my car with a trail of 20 zombies 4 levels above me hot on my heels.

I can SORTA confirm.

Zombies do indeed scale with you (Or the host of the coop game) but it doesnt take 10 hits to kill a zombie (At least it shouldnt) a good weapon with a lot of force can kill a kicked over zombie in 1-2 hits, and the sharp weapon specialist (Xian) can 1-hit walkers/infected by using her jump attack (A skill that deals +99% damage, theres also one that deals +60% damage if you stab someone in the back)

As for the Damage Scaling, yeah I can confirm that alright, but I choose to see it as a design decision instead of a flaw, making later levels being a lot more about not being hit and being more aware of your surroundings (I mean, in the start you hardly even need weapons, you can kick them to death easily or just punch them)

/EDIT
Also one of the characters has a regenerating health skill
/EDIT

+99% and +60% are for Xain, though. I'm using Purna, who is pretty much support and most of her skills are party-wide buffs. Also, I have exactly 0 skill points in Combat. Silly me, thinking that I wouldn't need to fight very often in a survival horror game. I have orange, blue, and green weapons at about my level and fully upgraded, but they still only do about 300-400 damage a hit while Walkers have about 22,000 health. (I'm assuming. In a co-op game, someone did a headstomp on a near-full health zombie and it did 22,000 damage, so I'm assuming that's how much they have.)

Still, the thing is they are dead. Dead people to not strong muscles have, either way, I feel, they should have either attacked slowly or done less damage or have a way to get some form of armor to weaken their blows.
Well, considering how those dead people are walking around, clawing at your face, could we just throw all rationality aside and assume that these are not your regular type of dead guy?

Hell, them being undead and possibly reduced to basic animal instincts, probably even makes them likely to be stronger than they would be in their human form.

All humans have bottled up power. Regular people just can't tap that power under normal circumstances.

Some athletes have trained themselves to unlock some of it though, and I'm sure you will have heard one of those "Mother does [Insert crazy shiet here] to save child" stories.

So yeah, it say's co-op on the back of the box. Its green, so that means on the xbox, you can play co-op. It also say's system link, cool, if we have more than one copy we can link em up. Brilliant!

It has an orange, so cool, i can also play co-op on xbox live. I'm enjoying this.

*sits down with friend to play it* Oh, no splitscreen? WHY IS IT ON THE BACK OF THE FUCKING BOX THEN?

Biggest complaint.

Personally I think the game is Borderlands meets Dead Rising. It seems to take a lot of hints from other games and puts them into a FPS survival horror. I think the RPG element of doing missions for stationary NPC's -could- work if done properly, namely by making the missions make sense. It's fine to be asked to stick your neck out to get vital medicine, food, water, parts to fix something to signal for help, etc. But when *SPOILERS!!* some NPC's ask you to do stuff like get their lost belongings, that's just stupid. The focus on melee combat is interesting, but I think a tad unbalanced. Then again I've only gotten to chapter 2 of ??, so it could be it gets more balanced later on in the game. IN all, Dead Island isn't what I expected. It's not a bad game, but I wouldn't call it the groundbreaking masterpiece it was hyped to be.

Its a great game although the multiplayer doesn't work well on steam, me and my friend had to boot up Hamachi.

I would agree with the OP on the cursing it is a little over the top.

We are having great fun killing zombies and I'm reserving my gun skill for when we meet a tough zombie while my friend has gone for lockpicking.

The cars are especially fun to drive around I drove perfectly to a gas station (trying to avoid women driver jokes) and my friend got annoyed with me becuase I hadn't ran over the nearby zombies... :<

This and also we were laughing at the fact we picked up some food for a guy and he immeadiately said OEH NOES we are running out so fast!

What the hell are you guys doing just sitting here eating nonstop?!

I have not bought the game yet, so I'm here to ask some questions.

Is it worth the $60 dollar price tag?
Are the guns worthlesss compared to melee weapons?
And how is the weapon modding system? It looked pretty good when I saw it last.
*ALSO: Split Screen on PS3?

The damage physics made me jizz and laugh my ass off at the same time. Break a thugs arm, watch it flail when it screams, the slice the arms off. All in all a wonderful game.

I haven't gotten to use the rifles a lot, but against zombies the pistol and heavy pistol are shit. On humans though, they are awesome if you get head shots.

Hell yeah, breaking both arms on a thug and then see him try to headbut you while his arms just flop around, we didnt really want to kill him after that

It made me chuckle that they actually can drown too. I was wandering down a path and I just saw some sad little blue numbers off in the distance. Guess a zombie fell over in the pool :<

hows the story? does single player feel hollow like borderlands?
It has a better plot and a worse story, i.e. lots of events happening but they tell no tale, bashing zombies is really all they focused on.

Did you ever play Dead Rising? The feel of it is very very close to that.

They aren't technically dead. They're just virus carriers, still alive. That's why they can drown, because they're still breathing, too.

Tsk. Women. Even when they drive right, IT'S STILL WRONG.

Have you let it headbutt you? You still get blasted across the room. NO MERCY.

The thing I most notice is the really, really bad texture pop. I mean, that kind of stuff doesn't really bother me, but good god above! Really, really bad.

That and the game seems really unforgiving, with three walkers running up and liberating my head from my neck with their bare hands in a matter of seconds.

Still love it though.

OP, play the game on easy or, I dunnoh, if you're not looking for a game with M-rated language, perhaps zombie games[/i] are not for you.

7 Hits? Hell, Dead Rising gives you FOUR! What are you complaining about?

I pre-ordered Dead Island and was anxious to get my hands on it all summer. What a disappointment!

Let's get the good out first:
1) The melee combat is cool. I like the ability to break and sever enemy limbs.
2) The environment and atmosphere are awesome, it really looks and feels like a tropical vacation gone wrong.
3) The skill-tree system is also a nice feature.
4) The voice acting is a bit above average.

Now why it is such a disappointment:
1) The zombies level up when you level up. Meaning they will always be as strong or stronger than you. So you'll never really feel like you're getting any stronger. This makes that nice skill tree system I mentioned earlier feel rather useless.
2) The weapon degradation is just ridiculously idiotic. Most weapons will get worn out after just five or six kills and cost descent sums of money to repair. Like $100+ to repair a paddle that will be worn out again in a few minutes.
3) While zombies level up, the weapons lying around don't. So when your good weapons break (and they will) then you'll have the scavenge weapons from the area. This makes back-tracking through areas you've already beaten a pain in the ass. Because the zombies are the same level as you, but you only have level one or two weapons lying around to defend yourself.
4) The save system is shit, as in there isn't one. You can not pause the game and save manually. You are forced to rely on very inconsistent in-game checkpoints that, more often then not, only serve as re-spawn points and not actual saves.
5) Do you remember that nice voice acting I talked about? Well it's heavily under-cut by the ugly/poorly animated character models. You'll be listening to this tragic story of how this lady's husband got bitten trying to save someone trapped in a car. Only she's just standing there with dead staring eyes and a blank expression, making stiff robotic movements and noises like she's crying, only there are no tears.
6) The game is very buggy and unpolished. If you take time to explore the beautiful scenery you'll be greeted by a lot of floating objects, hideous texture pop-in, and the message "You are leaving the playable area!" You'll also find that zombies sometimes get stuck inside walls, or fall through the ground, I've even experienced a quest-giver vanish off the face of the earth.

Not worth $60.
