It's pretty hot, but I'd rather watch... Oh. I see.

Depends on the game, but unless it's something really fun (and it usually isn't), it quickly becomes a chore, and chores aren't fun.

Upon waking up, I come down to my basement, and get thoroughly beaten down by some hobo who lives under the stairs. This event caused me to wonder... What does the Escapist think of grinding?
Wait...what?

I don't understand this. a hobo lives in your basement? Or was this sarcasm and really happened in a game...I never know on this site.

On topic, I absolutely hate grinding. It's not fun, I'd much play a game where you gain levels or item naturally by progressing than by being stuck in one spot. It seems to me like lazy game making.

As an obessive-compulsive gamer (in some cases), I REALLY need to get EVERYTHING, all the available upgrades, all the available options, items and stuff (reason I can't get into RTS, I get my ass handed to me before I EVEN begin to build all the stuff...) so I grind the hell out of, for example, Final Fantasies and some other games in order for me to get the whole she-bang.

The two main reasons I would never play WoW is a)because the same tendency of wanting to have it all would leave me with no life whatsoever and b)I'm too poor to pay for a subscription

For me the worst kind if infinite respawning enemies in an FPS. Not technically the same, but it's similar.

I actually grinded to get all the magic spells for every character in Final Fantasy VI. Several times. In general though, I feel that a game that makes it necessary to grind in order to proceed in the mission, storyline, etc. should not make you do so.

When grind is in a game, be it an mmo or a regular game. Its just a cheap trick to lengthen a game that has little content. Its lame and an unredeemable thing to put it a game. I dont want a game to be like a second job that im paying to work at.

So basicly, all mmo's can suck my family jewels. Especially horrible crapgames like WoW.

It's alright; it can be a little embarrassing if the ol' man hood stands to attention too soon though.

I absolutely hate repetition. It gets so boring to me so fast. I simply can't grind without feeling like I'm wasting time when I could be playing or doing something fun.

Well, it depends, in pokemon there are no great spots to grind, so it makes it quite a hassle to have to raise level 50s to level 80.

But, it... helps you learn.. how to...

Uh...

It makes the game longer?

Grinding. The most bad, boring and downright unncessary way to prolong a game's lifespan. Only game I ever enjoyed the grind was Tales of Symphonia and Skies of Arcadia, but both had excellent battle systems.

What I hate is, quest asks "Kill ten ", normally there are millions of around, as soon as you've gotta find them for a quest they get all Big-Foot on yo'ass and you can't find them for shit.

I used to do it, but not anymore, I felt it took away from the game experience, so now I just sit back and enjoy the game.

Best thing to do every now and again. Better with a girl though. As for games, only if the gameplay is fun. Like Borderlands.
