What do you think of the Star Wars Force Unleashed games?
I really, really enjoyed the first one, and was super hyped for the second one, but it was slightly a let down, but overall ok, but too short and easy. I wouldn't mind a 3rd one, as long as it's done right. Oh and I felt like such a badass playing as Starkiller.
They were both fun to play. The first had a decent story as a bonus (the second not so much). That's about it. Liked them both, liked the first better.
I was so excited and then so disappointed by the first one, that I never played the second.
I love playing as a Jedi, always have, and I was really looking forward to that awesome physics they made that cool tech demo of....
Then when it actually comes out, it feels more like dynasty warriors than jedi knight, and the physics thing is only used for a few shitty gimmicky doors. Fuck you Lucasarts!
The first one was great. I felt the twist on Vader deliberately using Starkiller to create the rebellion was a massive stretch of disbelief but I really enjoyed it.
The second one was fine for what it was and I even didn't mind the length, but the story was a disgusting mess and the obvious lack of interest from the development team and writers clearly showed. It felt that either A. a lot was left/cut out or B. they wanted to get it out as fast as they could.
I felt this franchise was really promising after the first game and after completing the first game I felt very excited to see LucasArts taking risks and actually doing something, but with Star Wars Kinect on the horizon and even Old Republic (a different discussion for a different thread) I can't say I'm entirely pleased or even interested with the direction the company is going, and Unleashed 2 definitely put a nail in that coffin for me.
They were off-canon and the superjedi powers of Starkiller didn't work for me. Also the whole "kill my stormtroopers"-plot was retarted. Why not make a Jedi-game, not a Sith-game, if you want to punish the Empire? I understand that stormtroopers are a favorite enemy of Star Wars fan, but kicking Darth Vaders ass in the end was absolutely stupid! The whole thing should have been a cutscene, where the Dark Lord of the Sith just walks over the wannabe jediwhelp, flicking a finger and ends the clonebastard.
Meh they were okay, not the best but not the worst either, still would rather have a Kotor3 rather than another Force Unleashed game or The Old Republic though.
loved the first one, it was way frickin fun! havent gotten my hands on 2 yet. just one thing. what drugs did vader take after starkillers story that made him look so weak when fighting luke in the movies??? seriously, if vader fought with someone who ripped a F*CKING STAR DESTROYER OUT OF THE SKY WITH THE FORCE then he would have pussy-whipped luke like crazy. its just funny thats all.

I really liked the first one, thought the story was reasonable and could fit well into the canon. The combat was fun and engaging and the hardest difficulty was certainly a challenge.
However I really was let down by the second game, mainly by the story. It all felt unneccesary and rushed, and was only there to add a bit of padding between the first and the inevitable third game. The combat was improved slightly, the dual lightsabers being quite fun to play around with but a lot of the bosses, the final one especially, were jokes and I would have liked a couple of new, memorable force powers (I actually forgot there was a mind control power in II until just then)
Still, perhaps number three can redeem the series, who knows?
The force unleashed projects are those kind of games that have so much potential, but the increased cash in corrupted developer mind, trashed the project to the maximum.
Both games have a good and interesting gameplay. So let me pick Force Unleashed 1 for starters.
FU1, was a kickstarter to what could be another Lucas Art classic, the the story seemed like it was compressed, leaving the player with a 4/5 hour experience. Still the story was interesting enough, with the player taking the role of StarKiller, a secret apprentice of Darth Vader himself, and a very powerfull apprentice considering he knows his ways around the force wich such ease... Story wise it's compresed and very rushed, but interesting and compelling that's no doubt. Gameplay wise, the controls are simple and easy to master. Theres really no difficulty till you face a boss, vehicle or other lightsaber users. The bosses fights are a little repetitive, and i hate the fact there's only one cinematic finish move to each special enemy. Also the concept of leveling the saber or the force powers is good, but it was badly inplemented has i found myself to go full force and owning everything i faced... The sound we all know, has it are the classic star wars soundtracks...
The DLC's were interesting, except the one in wich you kill skywalker... it's messing with the story itself, providing a retarded paradox of what couldv been...
And now FU2... this game... i really hated.
The story gives a bad beggining has you are a clone of the former Starkiller.
From this with the haunting dreams of his love, he will ride through the galaxy, providing a brand new personnality, of whinning, crying baby, till the final fight with Vader, wich was... the worst fight ever... so retarded in so many ways...
Story wise is horrible. Starkiller has the powers of a God and the intelect of a Twilight loving 14 years old girl. Every single character development was for the worst. The only thing i liked was the Bad ending!
A Dark apprentice, clone from the previous starkiller, kills you're whinning character. Best thing that happened in that game...
Story wise is awfull. Let me just put it at that. Gameplay wise, it's the same thing, with a couple new powers. You can also find secrets to change you're character in wich you will laugh at a couple of the things you'll unlock. But unfortenatly the attempt of creating enemies that made you use you're different powers was a complete fail, considering they posed no threat at all... the bosses are even more repetitive and boring that they could ever be, and apart of some key moments, the game is really boring. It has some lovely backgrounds, and i did love the casino level, but other then that it's a really boring game. The sound is the same has the previous FU, and the cash-in moments of the developers adding quick main characters from the movie, was a gigantic WTF failure.
At some point you meet Yoda... for 3 minutes... you walk to him, he says a phrase and you enter a cave... tremendously disapointening...
And the DLC... was a complete WTF from the beggining to the end...
You have to fight the rebels, in one of the Moons of Endor (don't know if Moon or Moons and i don't care), and you will end up killing Han Solo, Chewie and Princess Leia, that apparently is a Jedi... and an awfull one at that... It completely screws up the movie and it's an horrible piece of DLC. At least you can kick Ewok's, wich in my opinion were one of the wrost ideas George Lucas could ever have (goddam little bears with sticks and stones, defeating clones armed with rifles and advanced weaponry)
Also the whole game was 3 hours exactly, wich is a horrible lenght for a game... it's not even worth it, and there is no kind of replayability...
Force Unleashed was not the best game out there, but one thing i can say... it was 100000x times better then the sequel...
I really liked the first game. It had a good story and after the prequel trilogy, someone needed to bring a decent story back to Star Wars.
However, the 2nd one felt far too much "wow! look how much cash the first one made. quick, knock out another of these games so we can get back to lining our pockets"
And the story of the 2nd game makes very little sense given the time line of when the games are set.
I liked the idea of bridging the two Star Wars trilogies together and putting a new spin on the universe where the powers of the Force are "Unleashed" or extremely over the top. However the character of Starkiller has pretty much fallen flat for me, he was a decent character until the second game where he became a moody, whiny, selfish, egotistical and power-hungry character that would give Anakin a run for his money. It certainly doesn't help with Starkiller being so stupidly powerful that he can challenge Vader during a time where he is suppose to be the enforcer of death and terror throughout the Galaxy, he steals Luke's spot light in the Saga by doing this.
Nice concept but I wish that they would apply it with other characters, Starkiller has gotten boring after only 2 games. If they made a game with this concept and we got to play as Vader, or some other notable character in the overall mythology, then I would play the hell out of that game.
Terrible.
Watched my friend play around with the HORRIBLE controls for the events towards the end (when you pull a very large object down towards you), and couldn't get it to work for 45 minutes because of some truly arbitrary silliness ("No, it has to be pointed a CERTAIN WAY before it can be pulled to the ground! Because otherwise the following prerendered-cutscene won't make any sense!")
The regular combat is one-dimensional and unintentionally hilarious.
Watching him having to chainsaw-whack a rebel trooper with his lightsaber until he fell over, ONLY FOR HIM TO GET BACK UP AGAIN had me literally rolling on the floor laughing.
He might as well have been wielding a cattle-prod for the lot of good it did him.
The force powers, on the other hand are completely busted. Force blasting doors open feels suspiciously like busywork, and it also happens to piss all over the relative continuity of the series.
(Why couldn't any other Jedi/Sith use force powers at that magnitude? Because it wasn't in the script?)
There is a lot of potential for great gameplay and story line but both seem to be restricted by something, be it the length and story itself or what your allowed to do at a given time. The second one was also rediculously short for a single player only game.
