READ THIS BEFORE POSTING!
What do you think of Twilight? I don't want you telling me "REAL VAMPIRES DON'T SPARKLE!" because real vampires don't exist. All I want is to hear what you think of the books and/or movies. And I want this to be a respectful thread - Twilight fans posting they are Twilight fans shouldn't get a deluge of posts on why they're stupid. And on the other side of the coin, somebody who says Twilight is stupid shouldn't get told "You just diss Twilight cuz it's cool to do that." But do feel free to point out factual errors and stuff like that, though.

So tell me if you like Twilight or not, and tell me why. And please - be respectful. Don't call anybody a retard for not agreeing with you.

Oh, one more thing - surprisingly enough, this is search bar approved. There are extremely few Twilight threads around nowadays, and as far as I can gather there has never been a "What do you think of Twilight?" thread.

I think it's a disgrace to the perception of vampires. Traditional vampire films like Dracula are now over shadowed by a stupid teen romance movie which people now worship.

Ehh...quite honestly, anything that keeps boredom at bay for a few hours is good enough for me, so I have read the first book.

It's not bad, it's just not great either.

Also, I personally think that most of the public hate towards Twilight is actually directed at the fans themselves, but I may be wrong.

I liked the books. Worth a read, but not great.

I think Meyer, although not the greatest writer of all time has managed to bring back what has been lost since Pride and Prejudice. A real gentleman who the world's women have fallen in love with. He is everything a traditional 'Gentleman' should be, down to the tragic flaw that lost Mr Darcy the love of Elizabeth. I think her writing is bland and her books tiresome BUT I feel for many she's filled a void that could have been filled with culture years before.

You cannot fault her creation of a model that young and old can take and mould to how they see fit, creating their own 'perfection', be that with Bella (who every girl wants to be), Edward (who is the perfect man with a fatal flaw) or Jacob (The best friend who wishes).

Oh, and no, I don't like twilight.

I haven't seen the film or read the book. From what I have seen though it doesn't look like my thing. I do like a bit of a vampire story, however I only like them when they don't rewrite what a vampire is supposed to be.

I don't like it, i don't feel the need to rant about how i don't like it.

I've seen much better films, and indeed much worse.

Twilight is just the latest in a long line of modern takes on vampires trying to romanticise them, with others such as Interview with a Vampire, Buffy and True Blood being equally as guilty. The traditional vampire of ancient myth is portrayed as a ravenous, cunning hunger that terrorises the unfortunate local populace - an image that has been changed by modern 'interpretations' into something less animalistic.

My problem with the Twilight series is based solely on the fact that it is yet another nail in the coffin (forgive the pun) of the traditional vampire, the ancient animal cunning of an undead beast in human flesh. Vampires have always existed in human cultures as creatures of dread and horror, and I don't agree with the modern obsession with making them seem cool and interesting.

These same sentiments go for werewolves, too.

I heard about it after reading an article about the author in Time magazine...before the first movie came out. At first, I thought it was an interesting read. Nowhere as good as what I would normally read...but interesting...I guess I was waiting for some steamy sex or violence...or something. Then a friend got in to it and went total fangirl in to it and read the books as fast as they came out. Then she proceeded to explain certain things of the books I hadn't read yet. GRRR!!! Yet, hearing what happens later on in the series, I should probably thank her since it would've made me angry to actually read all the way through to some of those things. Also, it kinda bugged me how, had it not been for her sudden "love" for Ed (this would be adolescent hormones going in to overdrive and confusing lust for love...just saying, you don't "love" someone that quickly, lust yes, love no), his actions would be considered creepy. For example, he suddenly appears in the city (see STALKER!!!).

All right, I was nice. now can I point out the similarities between Twilight and True Blood? SPOILERS!!!:::...though not really if you've ever seen a single commercial for either one. Let's start off with an innocent brunette white girl with an uncommon name (Sookie Stackhouse/Bella...whatever her last name is) and add in a romance with a vampire (Edward Cullen/Bill Compton) with the tension of him wanting to penetrate via fangs/sex. Then to heat up the drama, let's add in a 3rd wheel who just so happens to be a werewolf that hates/distrusts vampires (this would be Jacob/uh...I dunno his name right now and am too tired for research...I fix it in an edit later) and our little innocent heroine simply can't decide which one she would rather be with and this is considered okay...though, in real life would get her a few unsavory labels. Does all that sound familiar? Oh, they both also have "super cool" vamps that do not approve of the relationship, giving it a Romeo/Juliet feel and would like to eat the chick. I'm sure there's more similarities but you get the picture. Also, by the way, the Sookie Stackhouse novels came out FIRST!!! People have argued this with me by the logic of "Well, the Twilight movie came out first so, obviously, those books came out first, right?" WRONG!!! Check the original publication dates. I'm not saying it's idea-copying...but it's pretty similar.

In short, I prefer "True Blood" because it's a bit more my speed...but, still doesn't meet what I would like to see in a vampire or werewolf book. I would like to write my own and publish it, there will be no love triangle and NO sparkling. Also, if one more person asks if Twilight is the reason for my vamp bite tattoo...no, I got it before this craze hit.

I win the thread!

There you go!Truly that's how I feel about it.
I loved how he kept refering to Bella as a Lego Brick.

I have not read to books, nor watched the movies, so I refuse judgement. it doesn't seem like my sort of thing though.
