What do you think of Twilight?

I don't think about it - I find its profound popularity rather perplexing (alliteration rules), but apart from that, I really haven't formulated much of an opinion on the subject. I've never read the books, and I've only seen the first movie, which was ok. I get the impression from many of the more vehement Twilight haters that they've had about the same amount of exposure to the series as I have, and are really only lashing out at it because it's the cool thing to hate.

And really, that's no less pathetic than a bunch of pre-teen girls getting giddy over the wolf boy with the six pack.

I don't care for it, i read like half the first book and found it poorly written with some of the most unlikeble characters. I didn't bother to see the films cos i thought the book sucked so much.

I think Meyer, although not the greatest writer of all time has managed to bring back what has been lost since Pride and Prejudice. A real gentleman who the world's women have fallen in love with. He is everything a traditional 'Gentleman' should be, down to the tragic flaw that lost Mr Darcy the love of Elizabeth. I think her writing is bland and her books tiresome BUT I feel for many she's filled a void that could have been filled with culture years before.

You cannot fault her creation of a model that young and old can take and mould to how they see fit, creating their own 'perfection', be that with Bella (who every girl wants to be), Edward (who is the perfect man with a fatal flaw) or Jacob (The best friend who wishes).

Oh, and no, I don't like twilight.
I think you hit the nail on the head there. Plain and simple.

I think Twilight is objectivly rubbish the author clearly isn't a skilled writter but that most complaints are invalid because they come from people that are clearly too old to be reading teenage monster drama books in the first place.

My friend, you surely must not realize what hellish gates you have opened. Though people here seem to be much more forgiving to posters asking about such subjects, as opposed to... other places.

Moving along. You're completely right. Real vampires don't sparkle because they don't exist. While we're at it; real werewolves don't transform into a typical wolf at any time they damn well please either, because they don't exist. But what Stephanie Meyer has done is besmirched the idea of these once-great folkloric beings. They can be 'redeemed', this is true, but in reality, few would truly wish to witness the redemption because the rest of the world has been swept away by Meyer's glitter-coated albino stalkers with slightly enlarged canines. Damn it Meyer, you've ruined vampires and werewolves.

As an aside; my interpretation that the franchise features a lot of, oh, let's say 'less-than-legal' implications. And I think I'll leave it at that...

Finishing touch; I don't mind the idea of a 'romantic' vampire, not at all. But Meyer's abomination makes me feel physically sick. Or maybe that's just what I had for dinner. Excuse me.

EDIT: Didn't she once say in an interview that she knew nothing - or close to it - about previous incarnations of blood-drinkers and puppy-men? Wouldn't be a surprise...

On a more serious note; I saw the first movie... I knew I wasn't going to like it, but I didn't expect it to be that bad. Nothing happens until the last, say, 20 minutes of the movie. If people like that - good for them. I certainly didn't, but then again, it's not my type of movie to begin with, since it doesn't involve copious ammounts of blood and titties (I kinda wish I was kidding about that...)

Also, I never read the books, and I can't say I'm planning to, since I've just gotten back the will to read at all and I doubt instantly killing my will to ever read again will accomplish anything.
I kid, it isn't the type of book you'd find me reading anyway - I'm not going to read it because some squealing fangirls liked it.

I don't like Twilight, mainly because of the character design and the fact that a bunch of authors are now trying to copy her success. (Although, I haven't truly liked a vampire since the time when people were shouting "Die, monster!" at them.)

One word boring. Read the first half of the first book. It's just boring.
Have seen the second movie and it was even more boring.

As a female I have read the twilight saga more times than I have fingers and toes mainly beause a) my friands never shut up about it and I got roped in very quickly and b) it is like crack cocaine!

Stephanie Mayer has created the ultimate man that every girl would want thats why it became so popular because of the character of Edward Cullen not the overly whinney Bella! And honestly if this was written in anything but the first person people would very quicky turn away from it because of her clinngy needy and whiney ways!

And then because of every girl hating Bella's personality the girl in question becomes to put herself in that place and the fantasy of being with a guy that is truly perfect would make any girl love the book!

The films are good and fairly true to the books thought New Moon I didn't like though thst has Edward disapper for 1/2 of the 2 hour movie!

Yet we all have to accept that Twilight will be arround for some time as there is 3 movies still to come out (including Eclipse next month) and the first part of Breaking dawn will not arrive till November 2011! so Guys you are just going to hav to put up with it! Or pray that something better comes out!

I do like Twilight the books are better than the films and the best is Twilight by a long shot and could have done well on it's own but then again you couldn't get a coppy of Twilight (in England) before the movie was announced now every book shop everywhere has it!

But still it's better than most books that are aimed to Teenaged girls!!!

The RiffTrax versions of the Twilight films are works of comedic genius. I can forgive their predecessors (the real books and films) just about anything because of RiffTrax.

I read the first book.

It was on a par with a lot of other teenaged "literature".

I don't like a lot of the themes (confusing lust for love, physical perfection is a replacement for personality, Bella is a recipient rather than a true heroine who does things for herself are things that occurred to me as I read) that come out later in the book, nor the characters themselves.

I liked the Oatmeal's take on Twilight, even if it was a little harsh on the poor fangirls;

Can I add the disclaimer that everything I've said is based purely off my own subjective opinions? Thank you :)

Pretty much this...

Personally I don't like the series in the least and prefer to stick to things like Castlevania, Trinity Blood, Blood +, and Hellsing for my vampire fix.

It's softcore for ladies. That's not a bad thing, women need it too. There's tons of movies and tv shows like that for guys. I find it weird that guys are so threatened by it. It's basically just an Archie comic in reverse.

I got halfway through the first book.
It made me cringe, both because of the cheesy bullshitry and the poor writing.
