It might be a Scottish thing. Not many carry outs do gravy up in my neck of the woods. And remember one thing before expressing any shock at what a Scotsman will eat: we are the nation that invented the deep fried pizza. Yes, we take what is basically 95% dough (the most absorbent foodstuff known to man), and chuck it in a deep fat fryer. This explains everything you need to know about Scottish eating habits (and why we are "the Fat Man of Europe").
Pretty much just below the border. I knew you were from the North when you didn't recoil in horror when I said I put gravy on rice. I understand curry sauce being put on rice, but not when gravy is a choice. I know all about what you Scots eat and I'm thoroughly impressed by it. You're a credit to the entire United Kingdom, bravo.

Well if I'm not at a buffet, in which case I eat everything not nailed down, I order egg drop soup, then either Orange Chicken, or Schechuan beef (I apologise profusely if misspelled that).

Nothing against gravy, I've had it before and it was damn good eating.

OT, but there's a lot of fun to be had with our food. There are few things in life so funny as convincing a tourist to try haggis, watch them scoff the lot (it does actually taste bloody brilliant if done right) and then tell them that haggis aren't really a wee beastie that lives in the hills and what was really in it...

Singapore noodles and veg spring rolls. I love them, plus you can judge the state of the local economy in any area by the price of singapore noodles.

I usually get the same sort of stuff, I rarely try something new although I probably should.
usually it's noodles, egg fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, they do some broccoli and something else which I can't quite remember... I also get spring rolls and chips because their big chips are nice. And I get ALL the puddings! I have such a sweet tooth >_>

Three words. Chicken. Fried. Rice. The only thing I order, and I order a lot of it. It's the one thing that no Chinese restaurant can fuck up. It's always good (but some are better than others) and it's usually pretty cheap.

I've usually gotten sesame chicken, orange chicken or sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. There's this Thai and Chinese place that gives you steamed rice instead.

Or I just get fried rice dishes--chicken, shrimp, beef or combination. Same with Lo mein. With the occasional egg rolls.

Lately, I've been toying with trying new things. Crab rangoon is pretty yummy. Had this cashew chicken once which was awesome.

Haven't been to a Chinese buffet yet. That must change. I will go to town up in there.

I just got chinese a couple days ago, and went with Pork Lo Mein with a side of pork fried rice. I also like one thing my girlfriend back one time, dunno what it's called but it was pork slices in a sweet sauce. I don't think it was sweet and sour pork but it was good.

Although most restaurants I go to don't have them, I do like fried calamari. Basically tastes like a gummy shrimp, and can eat fried baby calamari whole.

It's a life changing moment. I had 4 plates of main course and 2 desserts last time. Perfect for filling up before spending the rest of the day/night in the pub.

I mostly get orange chicken (white meat) and chicken fried rice. So good. Although sometimes I get General Tso's chicken.

Hard to go wrong with General Tso's Chicken.

In related news, I find it...interesting that the thread two spots below this one is about the chinese girl that got run over and ignored.

So what are we talking about here? Real Chinese food or American Chinese food? There's a difference.
Yeah... I was going to comment about all the mentions of 'General Tso's' chicken... which isn't really Chinese (purported to be Hunanese, but they don't really eat poultry in Hunan and if it doesn't burn your insides, Hunanese people will deny it has anything to do with them), and has virtually nothing to do with Zuo Zongtang... it's just a perpetuated myth that he liked chicken prepared that way (there's no proof either way).

I usually like some tripe or egg tarts. I also like clams and mussels, pretty good.
If you're big on Chinese seafood, try Zhejiang/Jiangsu traditional dishes.
Actually, I love Chinese seafood, but I don't really know pinyin. So I'll just say lobster and crab with the funxi(?).

Sushi and Sashimi, and lots of it. I mean lots, and lots, and lots. Even if it is not actually authentic(or technically chinese), I love sushi and sashimi.
That's not even close to being Chinese. People from China AND Japan would slap the shit out of you for even lumping them together. Japanese food is about clean and fresh subtle flavours and Chinese is everything from Northern Spicy Beef Hotpot to Dumplings to Red Roast Pork to Peking Duck to about fifty different regions.

I'd go for some Red Pork with lightly woked cabbage and some pickled vegetables. Or a northern Beef hot pot.
Did you read the part where I said it wasn't actually Chinese?

Anyway, despite your over reaction the OP asked what I get from Chinese restaurants. Well, there are two in my town(from a total of like 10) that I eat at regularly, and while the rest of my family gets all the stuff that is actually Chinese, I get sushi and sashimi at both.

So, regardless if its actually Chinese, that is what I get from Chinese restaurants.
