Most importantly, user-generated content. Something simple as a very basic level creator, with which people can make their own test chambers and submit them for bith single and multiplayer modes. Good idea, no?

What's going on with the level editor anyway? That still happening? Was that ever happening?
Source SDK?
I was hoping for something more easily accessible... and on all three platforms.

This isn't a "My hovercraft is full of eels" moment. Apparently you don't get what I'm referencing here.

I'd like a way to make your own levels and share them with friends or the public. I think some people out there probably have fantastic level ideas and I'd love to play them.

More levels. That's really all I want out of the DLC. Ideally not just challenge versions of the existing levels, but whole new levels.

More ridiculous puzzles. I didn't find the single-player all that challenging, so I would love more test chambers along the same level of complexity as the final few co-op chambers (lots of gel, timed jumps, lasers, switches, and turrets in massive rooms, etc.).

No more easy hand-holding tests. We've had those in droves, give us some crazy stuff.
This is what I'm hoping to see: more challenging test chambers for SP & Co op.

In a perfect world we would be getting a console ready test chamber builder, or at least let the consoles download the user made chambers from the pc version.

Why am I unsurprised to see you post that?

OT: More hats!

Nope, couldn't say it with a straight face. How about some more glimpses into the background, maybe see some of the other crap that Apeture was working on.

OT for srs this time: I will second wall walking gel, the mechanic was fun as hell in AvP 2000, and I would love to have another game with that in it.

Valve's DLC, hats aside, is always free. Now...since when does anyone not want free shit? By Valve, no less.

OT: Maybe we can get a few more experimental products from Aperture? They did have all those other shafts of testing spheres after all.

If it's free, it's normally cost them nothing, which means that it's aesthetic at best. I'd be happy with team roster updates and suchlike for sports games, tempted enough to buy updates for a truly good F1 game, but the rest? Nah not to me.

I reckon that the future of DLC and a lot of gaming altogether, lies in community projects, where games are adapted and taken on mby a group, and patched and constantly rebuilt etc. Then it might be worth buying DLC, in the form of tool kits. Everything else is either posturing, or sections of a game that was clearly incomplete to begin with.

Plus, I don't have a Valve hard on. It's good, one of the best we have now, but I'm still hoping that there are people striving for better

You'd actually be surprised at how much Valve gives away for free via their updates. They create dozens of new weapons for Team Fortress 2 sans charge, add new maps to their Left 4 Dead games, entirely new game modes, etc.

OT: In the first update, I'm thinking they'll release the challenge maps, along with a handful of co-op maps (might even have some crazy good community maps packaged in).

I would love to see more Cave Johnson. Or hear more.
What would be fun is player configurable levels with the panels, the planks of tomorrow. Rows and rows of the buttons that trigger or move the panels for the portals and can go from enirely boxy to hedgehog to get to the other side of the room.
And more opportunities to make mistakes.

TF2's hidden weapons would like to have a word. Some of those present interesting gameplay changes.

I do agree that mods (I believe that's what you're referring to here) have been influencing gaming during this past decade, but in many cases, DLC is not the same as mods in the context that many gamers know it as. A lot of DLC is strictly proprietary in nature, and the companies that put it out often don't release an SDK to allow for user-created content. Granted, some DLC incorporates user-created content, but these examples are few and far between.

I'm not saying Valve is the best. I was just implying that Valve has been making a lot more creative stuff than is currently on the market. Sure, we may want better, but that's why we have modding. We can do what they won't.

Wow, you have nothing to do at the moment, huh? Seems my comment irritated a few people. Ok, if they're producing this much stuff, it should have either been included in the game straight up, or they should be working hard on creating an improved sequel. Unless real life circumstances change, such as in a sports game, there should be no need to update a complete game via DLC, unless the game itself is tailored specifically to be part created by the user base, which these games aren't.

I know, but it asked me a question that I have an opinion on, so I answered. Plus, I feel it's a valid opinion.

Well, that's good, but I maintain that including these in a potential sequel, rather than leaking sections of the game out in portions is my preferred method. Of course, it's not how businesses like to run things. They like to stretch out the longetivity of a game, bastards.

Yeah, I was sort of talking about it being more official though, rather than just modding. Like, apps and browser games are far more accessible to the public and gaming communities in terms of production, I kinda want the same thing to be available on consoles and pc gaming. Specifically, games that are part created by the user/community. A lot of games have a basic version of this, in level creators, but I'd like to see that expanded. Like a detailed, high tech flash creator.

Completely man, I think Valve is doing great, I guess I automatically gain a dislike for anythign that gets too popular...

Sorry...the user has been shot, meanwhile, this assassin would like to express how he'd wish more co-op levels would be made, since that's the most fun in a game I've had in 10 years and I wish to experience that again, since as Yahtzee says, there is no replay value in a puzzle, once you've gone and figured it out...now I'm just gonna leave the body here slumped on the keyboard, hopefully he'll hit the post button before the cops come...
