I'm gonna go against the grain this time and not use a poll.

What do you think a hardcore gamer is and what does it take to become one? Are there several levels or types of gamer? Or are you like me and think there really aren't any, you're either a gamer or you're not. But to that end, what does it take to be a quote/unquote Gamer? Just playing a few sports games on the family Wii every now and then, or actually owning your own system and games? Is it how many hours you clock in a week? Validation from your peers?

My take on it is - if you have a passion for games, as in having critical opinions on them and a strong urge to play them for the experience, you're a Gamer. If you don't, then you're not. Simple, no?

My opinion is to be a hardcore gamer you have to know your stuff and if you don't know anything about a particular game or console or anything really, don't try and act like you do know.

Those that are hardcore know when to shut up and learn. Being good at games also helps this.

You described what a gamer is but you asked what a hardcore gamer is.

I'd say being hardcore is either playing games for longer than you spend talking to people face to face or you came about 3rd in a gaming comp.

An uncurable case of insomnia even when your not playing videogames because your so used to playing in to the wee hours of the night. Also when you don't finish in the top 3 in a online fps you give yourself 20 lashes with a studed belt. If you relize you've missed something important in an rpg.... 30. The crime must fit the punishment!!!

I think you need some degree of arrogance, lack of a social life, and a looooot of free time. Also a basement in your parents' house to live in.

If you don't get it, I don't take hardcore gamers seriously.

The very term hardcore is incorrect.

I can't believe these threads still get made.

"hardcore" is those who spend 20 hours on one screen of one platformer to get every movement down to the point where you remember it in your hands, in your muscles, and you don't need to think about it.

No life.

Seriously though, putting flame stickers over the vents of your 360. It makes it go faster.

You must mod every game you own to look and play like the original Pong, in such a way as to still allow it to be played online. Each point you score corresponds to one headshot/item collected/enemy unit or building destroyed in the original game. You must win every round thus. With one hand.

I'm not into the whole 'hardcore' or 'casual' thing. If you play games, you're a gamer. I don't think there's any need for more subdivision than that.

You have to weight at least 400lbs, be able to beat Megaman 1-8 in less than an hour, have reflexes that put The Flash to shame, and also you would have to physically be like 85% corn-based snack.

Maybe.

A gamer is someone who plays games as one of their main hobbies.

A hardcore gamer is someone who is unable to recognise that games that don't contain large amounts of blood can still be good.

That's actually my definition of a hardcore gamer.

Hardcore = Mortaging your house to get money for games/better computer.

However, anyone THAT ridiculously committed to gaming probably doesn't have a house to begin with...

You must be a self proclaimed arrogant asshat.

That usually does it. Remember, you are God's gift to the game and everyone must know about it.

Failing that, time is the only thing stopping you.
