someone who plays games in their spare time as their main hobby. takes an interest in all things game related and someone who can tell the difference between a game and real life. a win is a win, a loss is a loss. after all is said and done, it's still just a game. One you will go back to to improve on.

The very term hardcore is incorrect.

I can't believe these threads still get made.

"hardcore" is those who spend 20 hours on one screen of one platformer to get every movement down to the point where you remember it in your hands, in your muscles, and you don't need to think about it.
Thank you.

And those who finish Ikaruga blindfolded. Either way, it's those who are gratuitous gaming masochists, those who go above and beyond the call just to master games and find secrets. Simply finishing games on hard doesn't count

And I should point this out: You are not a hardcore gamer because you got "mad skillz" on MW2 (unless you're like Andy Murray and play it 7 hours a frickin' day).

And I don't remember her name, but a Nerdcore model, to prove she wasn't just a pretty face being told to lie about being a hardcore gamer, showed us in a video that she logs every secret she finds in RPGs. In a binder. And she had pages of the stuff.

Sort of reminds me of when I made my own maps on graph paper for a few RPGs.

But yeah, I've read a decent amount of research into this sort of thing, and most of the people who call themselves hardcore actually fall into a category called 'testosterone gamers' who are more focused on playing with their friends, competition, but only as long as it's relatively accessible.

And I might not be able to finish Ikaruga, but I can S+ every chapter except 4 (on normal).

You're a Gamer when you play mostly games that have some serious development.

Whereas a casual gamers is one that mostly plays simple mind-rot games like peggle, bejeweled, and minesweeper.

A hardcore gamer is a gamer that dedicates a lot of time to the mastery of many different games that require more skill an involvement than 'casual games' could ever provide. So, platformers, rpg's, fps's... all that stuff that isn't just a short, simple amusement.

You need to be a bit of an arse, with a contempt and hatred for everyone around you.

You need to feel that the gaming industry as a whole should pander to your desires and your desires alone.

You (usually) need to associate with one franchise and one franchise alone, calling everything else utter garbage that only those filthy casuals could possibly like.

What it means to be a hardcore gamer:

Buy a new game every week (at LEAST one), start playing and never come up for air till the game is finished. Three days and forty litres of stimulant drinks later, your heart is tapping you on the shoulder...

"Um... dude?... Can you, like... GO TO SLEEP already??? I'm pretty sure what you're doing to me is, like... against union rules and shit..."

The whole concept of BMI is flawed, as muscle weighs more than fat :p

Go on, call me fat.

Willingness to teach, willingness to learn. You don't have to be 'good' per se, you simply must not STOP gaming when it loses its current 'fad' status.
I truly cannot wait until it goes back to gamers being in a tiny leetle minority... See, Nintendo is just waiting until that time. Yep, that's it. They haven't abandoned us AT ALL.

If you've got that much muscle, you're not exactly doing your cadiovascular system any favors.

Those who play a game, are good at it, and multiple other games. These select few know plenty about the games they play and what it takes to be good at them.

That's what I think, anyway.

Hardcore gamer: A person who considers gaming to be their favourite form of entertainment media and thoroughly enjoys exploring the intricacies and challenge of a range of gaming genres. The whole 'nerd in a dark room' stereotype died more than 10 years ago - around the time the PS1 brought gaming to a wider, more diverse audience by being a 'multimedia entertainment machine' rather than just a games console.

A side note:
I would far sooner refer to those who are obsessed with and aggressively discuss movies as 'geeks' if I had to use that term. Gamers, in my experience, tend to hold far more constructive and enjoyable conversations about their passion. I'd much rather strategise about how to beat opponents in Tekken and feel like I'm gaining useful knowledge than needlessly argue about which colour Princess Leya's buttplug was in The Empire Smokes Crack...

You're not a true über-dedicated hardcore gamer, untill you've somewhat seriously considered poopsocking. (or swapping out your gaming chair for a toilet)

Playing for over 24 hours without sleep, like at a weekend long like LAN party.

When you prefer getting drunk/high at a LAN party rather than at a regular house-party/bar/disco, even though the guy to girl ratio at LAN's is usually 100/0

When you can WIN tetris in less than 5 minuttes (don't ask me how, i'm not that hardcore)

When just playing games isn't enough, and you need to spend your non-gaming time doing gameing related stuff (like browsing this site, talking about gaming, planning game purhchases, thinking about gaming etc)

If you've ever had sex while gaming
http://myspace.roflposters.com/images/rofl/myspace/1220797077191.jpg.%5Broflposters.com%5D.myspace.jpg NOT SAFE FOR WORK, funny demotivator, mods feel free to move the link if it's too much

When you end up usign game-references while talking to chicks at non-game-related parties and stuff.

You say LoL (littereally) instead of laughing sometimes.

The words 'Hardcore gamer' irritate me. Owning 250+ games (dating back to the NES) and being told I'm not hardcore since I don't own a 360 is... AUGH! Does it really matter? My definition of 'Hardcore' is anyone who has spent large amounts of time and money on this form of entertainment, showing dedication and support of it.
