The question is though, once you legalized Marijuana, what's next? Next up, people will want to legalize crack [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_cocaine], extasy [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extasy], or any other drug. Where do we stop from there? There has to be a limit to what drugs are legal and what drugs aren't.
Why exactly does there need to be a limit on what drugs are illegal? I thought we lived in a free-market country? If we live in a country where alcohol and tobacco (two of the worst drugs for you) are available, why can't we have crack, heroine, and ecstasy? The double standards toward drugs is mind boggling. Is it because those drugs kill you faster? Well, alcohol is responsible for... many deaths, but is allowed to be advertised. Cars kill millions of people a year. Is it because they are addictive? Well, nicotine is one of the worst addictive substances out there. So are caffeine, sleeping pills, cheese, and refined sugars. Anyone, please anyone, explain to me how there can be any sort of argument for keeping ANY drugs illegal that can't be made toward ILLEGALIZING all the items I just listed. Other than the "status quo" argument, which is bollocks to begin with.
Yes, drugs like crack cocaine and ecstasy do kill you faster, but who knows, maybe those things will be legalized someday.
But to my knowledge, no country has legal crack, ecstasy, or heroine, so those things are probably banned for a reason. Caffeine, sugar, cheese, and such can be addicting just as much as tobacco, alcohol, or heroine sure. But compared to crack and ecstasy, those things can completely break you down.
As far as I know, apparently Marijuana is scientifically proven to be just as bad as tobacco or alcohol, which is bad, but nowhere near as bad as how addicting and destroying crack can be. Crack can kill you and it can completely change your life for the worse because of its addictiveness. If every drug was legal, then everyone would be high all the time and people would be dieing from overdoses and abuse.
Some things are banned for a reason, like incest or cock fighting (I'll admit that those aren't the best examples), and there are rules and structures to keep a society from destroying itself. But who knows, maybe those drugs you listed will be legalized because enough crack-heads want it legalized. That doesn't change my original point that if those drugs are legalized, they should be treated like any other legal drug and should be taken responsibly and in moderation.
