For me to want their system they need to stop the gimmics and get more of the main stream stuff on their systems and stop being a generation late. I think the tablet controller has HUGE openings with RTS games that I have not seen used in anyway yet. But so far most of the games Wii and nintendo have in general are rush job POS games that any adult gamer doesn't want.

Most of the stuff Wii has is made for the "Family Experince" which is fine and all but most of your market is the FPS/3rdPS, RPG playing teen and up crowd that has no interest in the newest mario rerelease. Heck if you consider that any 8-12 year old boy has an older brother playing on an XBOX or PS3 you can forget them even wanting to play on their Wii. Most of them want to play with or what their older sibling has.

ZombiU is the only game i want to try on the Wii U right now and that does not justify a $300 price tag.

They need to realize that the only ones who care about Zelda and Mario and all those other IP's are people who bought the system already anyways and actually get some new IP's that are fresh original and most of all fun. They also need to show that they can make more than childrens games. I don't mind a light hearted game but at the same time I enjoy a more adult themed game as well like MGS, GTA, Saints Row, Assassin Creed etc.

Basically they need to get out of their comfort zone.
This 100% this, they need to offer some mature games along side their family friendly games. A console is a decent investment, and people don't want to have one for family games and 1 for mature, we'd rather just have our game console. Sony is poised to provide this, will Nintendo finally grow up and provide something other than their old kiddie IPs?

Zombie U is a perfect example, if there were a few more mature games like this (heck even a few proper racing games) I'd jump on it overnight as I have the money but they lack the incentive.

They need to abandon home consoles, and go fully handheld.

The Wii had good hardware sales, but Nintendo first party sales faltered at the end when even their core fanbase just couldn't be bothered anymore.
The WiiU never took off in the first place because the core fans were wary after the Wii, the casuals were scared off by the buttons and price point, and the developers were scared off when they saw everyone else being scared off.

The 3DS is doing quite well, has Nintendo's core fanbase behind it, and has no real competition in the handheld market.

It would be better for everyone if Nintendo became the handheld company.

Make games, loads and loads of games. I ain't buying a next gen console til either it gets a really good game, like, really REALLY good. Or til it has a ton of games.

I still remember buying my ps4, and then letting it gather dust, because it didn't have any games but the one littlebigplanet thing that didn't last me a while.

All Nintendo needs to do is get some great software out, that's really it.
Pokémon Snap 2, mainly because I loved the original, and this is LITERALLY the perfect console for it.

That and a Pokémon game, where you actually can catch them all.

It would actually make me give a damn about this CURRENT-GEN console. In terms of power, the WiiU is CURRENT GEN. It's ideas are next-gen, but the power is behind next-gen. Porting games people have ALREADY played to the WiiU was a stupid idea.

Oh mighty time traveler, from the distant future, do tell us about when you bought a PS4.

OT: It's been said before, but it's true, so I'll say it again. It needs games.
It needs the standard Mario/Zelda/Metroid first party blockbusters, but it also needs some decent third-party support.

Here's hoping the Atlus, Natsume/xSeed, Precursor, Capcom, SquarEnix realize the potential for profit if they make a good game for an under served portion of the market.
Because, I can pretty much guarantee you that EA won't spend any resources on making a good game for the WiiU.

The answer is pretty simple. They need good games on the WiiU. Lots and lots of them. See this is what I just dont get about the WiiU why release it before it had a great line up? They took all that hype about "the new nintendo console" and tossed it in the trash by not having a good line up of great games that people want to play. IMO it would have been better to be the last console to release with a great games line up then be the first console to release without any line up.

Come to think of it with the PS4 and Xbone I wonder if companies really understand that the reason people buy these peices of equipment is to play games. Not utilize social media, not watch TV, not mess with non-forcefeedback motion controls. People buy consoles to play games and so far this generation is shaping up to be about everything except that

Oh god, sony is already imprinting themself into my mind. D:

Heeeelp.

OT: I will probably buy the WiiU once they wind waker remake gets released to be honest. PS4 and XBone should do something like this, bring back a classic.

Make another crash bandicoot game sony! A good one made by Naughtydog. >_<

Go software only and join forces with Sony to effectively beat the competition while it is down.

You say this yet the sales of the games are fine, even very recently with a seemingly slow to take off console. Take New Super Mario Bros U and Gears of War: Judgement, which do you think has sold more? One of Microsofts flag ship exclusives is being outsold by a Mario game. What about Sony then, lets say Nintendo Land Vs God of War: Ascension. One of the PS3s flag ship exclusives is being outsold by a Wii U game.

Some of Nintendos games are the best selling games ever too.

I don't think Nintendo has to do anything that Microsoft isn't already doing for them right now.

According to a programmer I know, they need to make things easier and stop making it a problem for devs to make games.

Well I bought a Wii strictly so I could play all the Metroid Prime games and then I bought Super Metroid on the VC, they'd have to make a really good metroid game again for me to look their way, and after Other M? I don't trust them with it, they need Retro Studios back on that.

They make fine games but they seem to have a bad habbit of making Mario 3 over and over, it's been extremely similar since New Mario Bros Wii DS, I'm not asking for like massive innovation or anything but they couldn't even be bothered to change the stupid Toads out. Their excuse for Peach not being in the series was bad for the 2nd game but now it's just lame.

Im talking more about the image problem the system has. and even before what ive been reading about the Xbone boosting its competitors. And this is coming from the kids ive talked to at work. If they have the option about 90% of them or more will choose to play with 360s or PS3s before playing with their Wii Us or Wiis. All of my friends and almost everyone who visits the store I work want the types of games that Microsoft and Sony have on their consoles.

1. Release strong first-party titles.
2. Not be Microsoft.

And honestly, Nintendo could ignore the first point for several more months.

If they are selling someone must be buying them, I am not, you are not and your friends might not but someone is. You cannot make such sweeping statements about what the larger audience wants in the face of objective statistics like sales.

Go back in time and tell Past Nintendo to allow more third party games on the Wii, especially ones with a more mature demographic in mind. Also, they need to keep Past Nintendo from releasing so much shovel-ware.

Other than that?
Maybe do some of that know for the Wii U.

Nintendo is doing a lot of things right. They have decent indie support with a lot of variety with things like Road Rampage, Shovel Knight and Shadow of the Eternals (Yes, they're coming to PC, but Nintendo is the only console maker getting them). There are third party exclusives with Bayonetta 2 and Sonic Lost World. They have solid first party work, as always with the new 3D Mario and the upcoming Mario Kart.

The problem is that none of these games are coming out until the fall.

When it comes to games and exclusives, Nintendo is on the right track more than either Sony or Microsoft. They need to keep doing what they're doing. Just do it faster.

The other big one is advertising. For fuck's sake, ADVERTISE. I haven't seen any WiiU commercials anywhere. A price cut also would help. When there was a price cut in the UK, WiiU skyrocketed. But that's probably going to happen around the holidays or right before the competition launches.

Actually, the Nintendo Wii won the console wars. Resoundingly.

Nintendo is doing absolutely fine. The only thing is, it's not a console that's really intended for core gamers. I don't say that to bash Nintendo. That's it's strategy. It's an accessible tool that's meant to be used for all audiences for a wide range of tasks, and not just games. So the Wii dramatically outsold other gaming consoles, it just didn't necessarily sell to gamers.

Nintendo is also winning on handhelds, but that goes without saying. It's too soon to say how the Wii-U will do.

All they need to do is what they are good at doing: Making good, charming first party games, while putting third party games on their console. It's really that simple.
