He is either a love him or hate him kind of guy.

I personally think he is great and providing content and first impressions. What about you?

I think TotalBiscuit's biggest flaw is that he can be a massive jerk as a person. He also has trouble maintaining his genteel persona whenever one of his pet issues come up.

I like him.

*Pause*

Oh, you wanted more? Pretty much the brutally-honest pull-no-punches sort, as far as I can tell. I've watched a few of his videos and he seems alright to me.

I like him well enough. There's just a few buttons you don't want to push.

I like him and his content. He's got his issues, but that's part of why he's doing that whole therapy thing.

I'd trust him with my computer.
Even with ALL of the porn on it.

So yes, I like him, and I'm subbed to him on Youtube.

Professionally, I believe he has very good views, especially when it comes to PC games and gaming in general.
He dabbles in the ethics, and gives a nice, clear look.

Personality wise, I like him too. It's always neat to see him in a playful mood. As Taker said, you do not want to push his buttons. His rants always seem justified. At least to me.

I like him well enough despite disagreeing with his opinion on a couple of games.

As far as 'youtube personality' go he's pretty alright.

Guess I'll be the first person to say I don't care for him. I tried watching some of his videos, and they just didn't appeal to me. Didn't care for his view on stuff or how he acts on his videos. He's just not my cup of tea I guess.

Or a "never seen one of his videos" kind of guy.

Good for him if he makes a living off Youtube though.

Meh. Don't particularly like him, nor do I hate him. Indifferent I guess. I don't find his reviews or port reports on games all that helpful since he's running a much higher spec (enthusiast tier, really) rig than mine.

He was a massive dick before the cancer mellowed him out. He's alright now and I respect the lengths to which he goes to maintain his credibility. He still has dickage flareups though.

The tiny amount of his stuff I've seen, he's pointlessly angry and negative.

The valid points he has get bundled in with the white noise he's making.

Decent enough for technical games criticism and he works just fine as a podcaster and announcer, but not much more beyond that. If I want more interesting first impressions videos, I will go with Giant Bomb or Jim Sterling. :\

Eh, I like 'em for the most part, but he's more than capable of being a total ponce.

Not that I HAVE to like everything about the guy to enjoy the stuff he makes though.

Co-Optional Podcast is pretty neat and his in-depth stuff on game options/port reports are informative.

I'm not a PC gamer but I enjoy watching his videos anyway. Haven't met the guy of course so I don't know anything about him personally but I do enjoy his reviews, podcasts with Dodger and Jessi and, Lets Not Play videos. He hasn't really said anything that has upset me or that I can point to and say, "This opinion is wrong". Again, I'm not a PC gamer so most of what he says doesn't apply to me but when it comes to frame-rate and pre-ordering I am a choir member being preached to.

He's kinda pretentious and a massive douche at times.

But in general I like him, and can kinda agree most of the time. I get his points and again, generally agree.

I've only really seen a couple of his videos. From the videos I have seen though he seems like a pretty decent guy.

To me, he seems to be like the opposite of Jim Sterling. Jim's character is an asshole, because that's how the character is written and put across as. But as far as I've ever seen, Jim himself is a very pleasant and enjoyable gut. TB....I don't know. His personality just rubs me the wrong way. I'm not even going to go as far to say he's actually mean, just that I wouldn't get along with him.

When he sticks to game reviews, or is in a relaxed mood doing videos with friends, he's a very good content creator, and an excellent critic. His struggle to main professional distance from his subject...pursued to the point where it is occasionally tiresome...is admirable. He has a good analytical mind, he is erudite and has a voice made for radio, and he has a strong comprehensive knowledge of the medium he covers.

When he strays into personal opinion or politics, he becomes a wildly mixed bag depending on how closely your views align to his and thus how predisposed you might be to cheer on someone who is basically losing their shit. He seems incapable of "rising above the fray", and will wade in swinging at even the hint of provocation. He seems allergic to negative feedback (constructive or otherwise, he's gone off the rails at some of the mildest shit imaginable) and occasionally holds his audience in pretty open contempt. Given the nature of YouTube comments, this is most likely a learned behavior over many years of coping with and wrangling idiots, but it doesn't make it any more palatable. Given his thin skin and apparent propensity to take things personally, he appears to be well past the stage at which interacting directly with his audience is wise.

And I guess that's the crux of his problem, because that intimate relationship between content provider and audience is part of what made YouTube "celebrities" so compelling. They were more in touch with their audience and their demands, we had direct access to their personality. Rather than the more "removed" voice of an editorial or written review, they were like a buddy. And the way they present that content shows they're aware of that dynamic and attempt to capitalize on it, despite Biscuit's sensible insistence that we are not his friends and he wants nothing to do with us on a personal level.

That has to a difficult line to walk, and I sympathize...I wouldn't want to be in charge of figuring out how.
