I have never walked out of a movie in a theater but have considered it on numerous occasions. The last movie I couldn't believe I sat through was actually "The American" with George Clooney.

That said, I am something of a fan of "le bad cinema", so I can appreciate movies for their awfulness on an odd level, typically when they are science fiction or horror fare.

I've turned off a number of DVDs in the past, typically my issue is when a movie is boring more than anything, and I can be entertained by a lot of things.

I walked out of the movie "Gamer" within the first 15 minutes. It was either that or finally stand up half way through that piece of shit and shout "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!"

I first walked out of a movie, and I believe it is the only time, when I saw Spiderman (them Sam Raimi one) when I was five. I walked out when Uncle Ben got shot. It was the first time I was able to grasp a concept such as death.

EDIT: I walked out of the Barney Movie when I was three. I was scared when the lights dimmed...

Wanted to walk out of superhero movie, and I've turned off a couple of rentals like run fat boy run and that awful shymalan movie about The Water or something. For the most part, I have good choice in movies so I don't end up walking out.
Lady in the Incredibly Dull Water. Holy Batman, boring, boring movie. It's one good point was the part where the critic lampshades the various movie tropes and then gets mauled by a wolf.

Oh, and for those who haven't seen it- M. Night? He casts himself in the movie, as an author who will write a world changing book, but then get martyred for his cause. Are you shitting me, M Night? How big is your fucking ego when you haven't made a good film in nearly a decade?

I regretted staying for the entire time when I went next door to where my family was finishing Pirates of the Caribbean 2. Guess which one was better?

Grudge redeemed itself for me because everyone in the theater realized how badly it sucked, so we essentially MSTed it.

I quit watching Boondock Saints 2 about halfway through. I'm not even sure why I tried to watch it, I hated the first film.

I've never walked out of a movie. I paid for that! I usually read the fan reviews first, and then I ask whoever I am going with what they heard about it. Then we all make a decision.
And really, they haven't let me down yet.

If it doesn't get a great review, I'll wait until someone I know gets the DVD, and borrow it. Or if the DVD is cheap, I'll just pick it up, but it has to be really cheap. =D

Usually, if we think the movie is bad we'll make little quiet jokes and entertain each other during the rest of the movie. (I keep saying 'we', because I hate seeing movies alone.)

Then we'll talk about how bad it was later. Always a good conversation, that leads to other conversations about stuff we think is awesome.

The only time I've ever walked out on a movie was when I was a kid and my parents walked out on "Romancing The Stone". Seems like tame stuff now, but back then I remember being rather shocked at how full of the swears it was.

I'd like to think I'm a pretty good judge of trailers and commercials for a movie, so I've avoided most of the ones that turned out to be pretty awful. I've had a few disappointments, but it would have to be pretty mind-bendingly awful for me to actually get up and walk out without seeing how it ended.

I'm a bit more merciless with DVD rentals, though. The last one I shut off twenty minutes in was "2046", not because I found it offensive but because I found it dreadfully dull.

...Hannibal Rising...

So disappointing. I mean I practically grew up with Hannibal as an icon. Then along comes this pile of sheep-turd to ruin a good series. T_T
