Something that will never, ever happen, like Nintendo announcing a Metroid game that has a decent story with decent voice acting and possibly an expansive universe with a fantastic and consistently impressive combat setup, with maybe some friendly bounty hunter friends that don't want to kill you sometime in the game like in Corruption, that somehow isn't a copy of Mass Effect...and actual bounties. Or maybe Square Enix will announce an HD collection of the Chrono series, including Radical Dreamers, which has yet to be officially localized (Unless I missed it), completely remastered for the new systems, along with competent voice actors if need be. Maybe a new, possibly mature, Nintendo IP which isn't anthropomorphic in any way. Unless it's a revamped Star Fox, but I could wait for that.

Either that, or Eternal Darkness 2.

Something that's been making me froth at the mouth with oh so many taunts is the sort-of announcement of Beyond Good and Evil 2. That better happen this year.

A game that had the 'brown' noise playing in the background when it is announced

Shadowrun 2, only this time it's actually worth $60 and has a crap ton of multiplayer modes for a variety of different players.

Or Bioshock 3/Infinite turning out to have multiplayer which doesn't lag and is balanced.
I'm with you on everything you said there! Oh God, Shadowrun 2, if only......

A sports game with superheroes and dinosaurs. Preferably Ullamaliztli, including the part about sacrificing the losing/winning team.

An XBLA and PSN release of a bundle containing Mortal Kombat I, Mortal Kombat II, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat III would be right up my alley.
Or, a re-release of System Shock 2 for the 360. I really want to play that.
EDIT: Holy balls! As soon as I said this, I went on MK Online to find that they're making this EXACT THING. *begins crapping pants*

This thread is making my want to faceplam HARD.
If any of you are ever wondering why all we ever seem to get these days are "sequels, ripoffs, and wank," as Yahtzee so eloquently put it, look yourselves in the mirror and you'll find the answer.
I don't really think so, it makes sense that sequel announcements are more likely to make someone crap there pants, because the excitement from the original game is already there and can use it as a launch pad. It doesn't necessarily mean people don't want original content or new IP's.
"warcraft 4"
"Sim City 5"
"Colony Wars 4"
"Jedi knight 5"
"Persona 5"
"New 2D Metroid"

Ok then, but how do you explain this. And that's not even getting into the number of remakes mentioned with fancy graphics because apparently nobody watched the Extra Credits video on Aesthetics.
Also it seems I'm the only one who understands that a franchise only becomes truly memorable when it ENDS. And presumably the best time for it to end would be before it gets to the point where it's become akin to milking a dead cow. Take Metroid for example, I think the best time to stop making Metroid games would've been after Metriod Prime 2. Actually the most ideal time would've been after Super Metroid, keeping it as a tight trilogy, even though I loved Metroid Prime.
Anyway, I'm done ranting now.
I already did explain that, lots of sequels are being mentioned because people have pre-existing excitement about previous entries. It's hard to have a lot of excitement over something that doesn't yet exist unless you have an exact idea what it is you would want, that would be somewhat of a different topic I think. It doesn't necessarily mean that people are averse to innovation, new ideas or new IPs. That's jumping to conclusions.

Also you you shouldn't say "it seems I'm the only one who understands..." engaging in hyperbole is never the way to go if your trying to make a point of your opinions, and you are never the only person that feels a certain way. Your idea of a franchise being memorable only when it's over is purely opinion, I can certainly see why you would feel that way I even agree to a point, but it's by no means a a universal truth of the industry.

I'm not talking about a trailer to an upcoming game I'm talking about something completely unexpected.

For me it would be a FF collection with FFX, FXII and FX-2. FFXII is my most played game EVER. My disc aws F'd up so I never got to experience the Final cutscene first had (went on youtube for it) also, with trophy support and in HD this would be a treat.

Here's the best news you've ever heard. Picture it a press conference. The heads of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo together:

"After much thought, we have decided to merge. We feel that a gamer should only have to buy one system and get access to any game they want to play. We feel that if gamers have to choose one system over the other, the losing system and their games will not be purchased by this consumer. A merging of technology is sure to increase sales for all involved and by not forcing gamers to purchase more than one system, they may spend more money on games. We are pleased to announce this surely win-win situation for everyone in the gaming community!"

Edit: Upon further thought this will probably halt the forward momentum of console technology, so lets say instead all console manufacturers and game developers decide to get together and abolish exclusive titles. :)
If there are no exclusives, ther won't be any point in buying other systems other than becauseof the appearance of the system

XCOM, except not a retarded-looking FPS. At least make it so that you can swap between characters and use tactics a la Rainbow Six (and you can't just absorb bullets and blast the bad guys with your shotty).

Come to think of it, a new Rainbow Six as punishingly hard as the first, without all the chest-high-walls, blind-fire bullshit.

Besides halting the forward momentum of consoles might be good in the long run, costs are already being driven through the roof, if we stuck to a single console for a while, it would probably give the video game industry some time to catch it's breath, hell that's pretty much what's happening now, it would just be to a greater degree in a one console future.

No, because the technology will have to advance. They will be selling better consoles as time goes on and the war will be who's got the best processors and graphics, etc instead of who's got the exclusives you want.

A third Chrono game. Or an FFVI remake on PSP. Either of those would make me bow to Square.
