Neither would Silent Hill work as a film (and it didn't). The atmosphere wasn't really designed for film, it was designed for a game. Take the walking down long, foggy corridors, or the radio static, or the flashlight or the monsters - designed for a game.
I couldn't disagree more. Silent HIll would have worked brilliantly as a film if the game's core theme, that of isolation, had remained intact. As Tanthalos rightly pointed out, it was the director's fault that the film failed, not that it was unsuitable for film.
I agree totally with nil. If the director had stuck true to Silent Hill's themes and atmosphere and not deviated from the plot so much, it could have worked wonderfully, but instead they decided to go for the Hollywood gorefest approach, and look what happened.

They should make a Half Life movie but it should not under any circumstances have Gordon Freeman in. I mean like a movie set in the Half Life universe could be good, if done right.

I have a theory that Christophe Gains had a a script for a movie he was already working on, and when he got the green light to use the Silent Hill license, he just tacked on a few bits and pieces from the games and called it good. It's the only thing I can think of that explains why the gender of the main character was changed, why Pyramid Head, a character that is meaningless in the plot of the first game, makes an appearence and all the other little unnecessary changes Gains made.

The World Ends With You might make a cool anime film, you never know.
Devil May Cry would work as an action movie. That would own.
Phoenix Wright. Phoenix Wright would make a movie of such epic proportions, that it would blow your mind.

I would rather not see ANY game turned into a movie. WHY? because games today are like interactive movies in their own right. It's pointless to make a movie based off of a good game and butcher the story, premise, and characters with bad acting and unrelated material that they just like to throw in to "spice it up".

The reason why most game-movies fail is because some assclown decides to take the general premise and then come up with their own story to go with it instead of stick with the actual game. Good example of this is Final Fantasy: Spirits within, great movie but had NOTHING to do with final fantasy at all, totally undeserving of the name.

Games play out well as they do, we don't need stupid people who probably have never played the game acquire movie rights only to sully the good name of a good game. Games stay as games, movies stay as movies, the two should never combine to create these bastard children.

Seraph, why do the Marvel movies do so well? Because people have either forgotten the plots of the comics or learned to get over the fact that the movies weren't steaking to them. It's not sullying a story's reputation to take the premise and make a new plot. That's why fan fiction exists, to explore the parts of a canonical world that weren't explained throughout the official story.

But some games made into movies suffered something known as "pop culturalization." That's why The Rock was in Doom. I like The Rock as an actor, but come on, DOOM!? The Rock should not be in Doom, he should be beating up slave driver in a third world country while backhand his partner every few minutes to remind him who's boss!

Nil, you're right, if they had just used those tactics to get people into the movie, it could have been great. I still found the story interesting, but I wasn't really scared, nor was I grossed out. Not even a full autopsy could gross kids out these days.

Fronken and you others who mentioned Warhammer... Are you guys following the MMO's creation, as well? I only discovered Warhammer through Mythic Entertainment, as I was playing their original MMORPG, Dark Age of Camelot, when they announced the creation of Warhammer. I think it looks great, but I'd love to read the books and play some of the other games (probably not the tabletop -- I couldn't get enough people to play with me) before it comes out, though. But when it comes to the books, I don't know which one to start with.

I think if WoW ever fully died, I think they should make the last of it a movie.
They wouldn't make it a WoW movie directly, though. They'd make it a Warcraft movie in general. It might be a good movie, as long as they stick with the original story and keep the style of graphics (so long as they up the ante a little bit, though).

But honestly, I've always wanted to see a movie of Final Fantasy XI. Possibly during the war that precedes the game. This was a lot more relevent before the expansion came out, but it would still be awesome to see just how it all went down.

I'm going to assume that the game based movie we want is going to be good, have a good director, good script and good actors, They don't have to be famous, they just have to be good.

I think a good video-game based movie would be God of War, because it would be the greatest action movie ever (except for Hard-Boiled).

If Final Fantasy XI was turned into a movie, I'd make the director Michael Bay and give Shia LaBeouf a leading role. Not just because Transformers was/is one of my favourite movies of all time, but also because Bay is just the greatest director, and LaBeouf is one of the greatest actors.

If conditions are as you say, I'm there, and I'm buying popcorn. Opening day, no less!

Halo

I know not many people on this site are big halo fans (shatnershaman and myself aside) but I think that Halo is a game that could be easily adapted into a movie. It has some awesome action, a story thats interesting but not to long and complex for a movie, and Halo has a deep rich world with lots of back story

Im also really eager to see how the Bioshock movie turns out

i would give my right long and my copy of assins creed and team fortress 2 to go see a Warhammer 40k movie fantasy would be cool to. But i think it would truly be cool to base the movie on a space marine or a captured human

Animal Crossing.
What? Just me? People waddling (they must waddle) in giant animal costumes? Oscar gold, I tell you.
But I won't accept anything less than Bruce Campbell as Tom Nook.
