World War Z, last year. I slept with the light on for a week at the age of nineteen. I'm so cool.

I can't help it. I can cope with gore, aliens, psycho killers, vampires, monsters, etc... just not zombies. I can't cope with zombies, they scare the bejesus out of me. I couldn't even finish Half Life 2. Yeah, I said it.
I finished this book just last week.

About 2 in the morning that night my neighbours dog started going mental... I didn't really get back to sleep after that.

Uh, when I was six, watching Clash of the Titans and this scary *****:

Didn't sleep well for a month.

Otherwise, much of the time I sleep with the lights on is because I'm so damned tired I just fall asleep while watching something.

None. While I love horror in all its shapes and forms, it just doesn't scare me.

Well, I suppose "none" is a lie. I was reading the H.P. Lovecraft Omnibus one night and fell asleep with it on my face, lights still on. So I suppose that's one.

Should probably have gone to sleep instead of reading. Oh well...

IMHO, I never really found "WWZ" to be that scary and I'm a certifiable wimp. It was an amazingly atmospheric and enjoyable read, but not scary. FYI, there's a movie slated to come out, and I'm highly looking forward to it.

O.T: The first viewing of Blair Witch gave me the willies for about 3 days. Every little sound and half-seen movement made me jumpy. Also, when I tried to watch the first Hellraiser, I became physically ill, and had to shut it off.

I don't do gore.

The thing is that World War Z isn't particularly scary, it's just written in a way that makes it feel so... real. Like it's stuff that could have happened. Everything just seems so well written that it seems very personal. You know.

Also they recently finished filming in my home city, very cool seeing it there. That's actually why i picked up the book.

When I was a kid in grade five or six, I recall reading a series of books called "Scary Stories to tell in the dark". I had a vivid imagination, so some of the stories did stick with me when I was laying in the dark at night waiting to fall asleep. However, it was the art in the book that legitimately made me keep the light on for a few nights before I could fall asleep. They were just etched into my mind for a while.

I dunno how scary people would find them nowadays, but if you type "Scary stories to tell in the dark" into google and go to the images, you get some samples. I could only really describe them as nightmarish.
I remember that book. I read the shit out of it as a kid, and while the stories were pretty creepy, I concur with everything you said about the pictures. Seriously. [http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ll1uxdyntH1qdk000o1_500.jpg]

There is exactly one thing, and one thing only, that I've ever seen that prevented me from sleeping that night out of fear. I had to wait until it was light out. What was that thing, you ask?

The Doctor Who episode "Blink". If you have not seen it...for the love of God, listen to the people who say how scary it is, and don't watch it for the first time at 11 PM.

I read those in junior high, and was legitimately terrified. That illustrator apparently wasn't informed who the target audience for the book was.
personally I think the epidsode, 'The Library' worse..

Yume Nikki came close, but I don't think I was ever able to overdose on it. Only because I could only play it in thirty minute intervals or else I'd start freaking out. The FACE scene and Uboa disturbed me the most though.

Also I'd have to say Amnesia: The Dark Descent came close too. In fact, the only reason why I didn't turn the lights on was because it makes you easier to find. The entire night I would imagine a Gatherer banging on the door, so I just covered myself with blankets, got really small, faced the wall, convinced myself that they wouldn't be able to find me, and eventually fell asleep.

...I have a vivid imagination. I'm not proud of myself either.

The Thing.
For those who haven't seen it, one scene involves a head popping of and growing spider legs to skitter away.

Also some episodes of The X-Files are pretty dang creepy.

Stephen Gammell. He illustrates children's books...

Urban Legend. I was a kid, and it was the bit with microwaving the dog that grossed and creeped the shit out of me. Blegh, slept under the covers for a week practically suffocating myself because I was safe under the bullet/monster-proof pillow.

When I was younger, I played "Scratches: Directors Cut". It was spooky, and a little scary, but it was a good game. But then ...

I got to the ending ...

I lost a lot of fucking sleep to that part! Son of a *****!

The first time I played Silent Hill 2 a few years back, I couldn't go on at a certain point. It was about 2 am, and when I stepped into the hospital... the atmosphere just overwhelmed me. I turned off the PC, crawled into bed and didn't touch the damn game for two weeks before summoning up the courage to see it through to the end.
