Anything by Tim Schafer. Even if you dislike it, most are creative and really fun. If anything he stands out for having games like Grim Fandango and Psychonauts.

Shit, I haven't played a zelda game.
I've seen someone play it but never played one myself.

Well, I played it last week, but I couldn't finish it. Stupid Water Temple...

And as I said in my topic last week, I don't think there is.
All hail HypnoToad!

OT: Goldeneye or Zelda OoT, or more recently Borderlands

I think we should all go back and play Superman 64, just so we can remember there are far worse games out there then what we perceive to be "the worst game ever"

While there are a lot of games more innovative, I think everyone should play psychonauts. It was hilarious, creative, and if nothing else, it would tell Tim Schafer to make more games like it.
Why would it do that? It didn't sell well at all. That said I agree, I enjoyed it even though the meat circus was a pain in the ass to beat.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Everyone must buy and play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from start to finish in all three modes, especially multiplayer. It's cliched, I know, but its a great game. Also, play Splinter Cell and Hitman. They are fucking awesome.
I would not play that game if my life depended on it.

Also I'm not about to tell people what games they should play.

Google search the Tourture Game. It is pretty fun and a great way to blow off some steam.

Everyone must play a game before they can call themselves a gamer.

Stunning, isn't it?

Edit: Or to call themselves the best gamers, they have to have at least played every game listed here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_computer_and_video_game_franchises

I want you to play [insert game title here] because i have no life and masturbate to it furiously every night. also i am a giant tool*.

What. The. Fuck. If you are an anti-gamer, don't come to the Escapist. If that is just your version of funny... well it kinda is. Never mind.
thanks.

i just hate these threads.
I came on here to see what it was like. I don't think I'll be back.

anywho since there's no game everyone must play just games that are highly recommended for copious amounts of win and awesome

I'd say uhhh, hmm the pokemon board game you havent lived till you've spent 10 hours (thats just with 2 players) traveling around board Kanto trying to catch all teh pokemans you can and beat the 1337 four

wait vidya game? ohh well then donkey kong country for the SNES, it's ancient in video game standards and I still say the graphics quality is amazing (plus who doesnt like curb stomping alligators as a gorilla/chimp)

Ratchet and Clank. 9 games, and not 1 of them bad.
I say this as a massive R&C fan: I strongly disagree. Did you ever play "size matters" on the PS2? never before has a game let me down so badly.

OT: there's no one game that would suit everyone, but i do think most gamers should at least taste one of the old classic mario/DK/sonic games. super mario world or DK country are pretty awesome.

Shadow of the Colossus and Okami. That's all I can think of. Those are the only ones that will more than likely surprise you in one way or another no matter what.

I must admit I feel like less of a gamer as I have never played a Zelda game.

My nomination goes to the Half-Life series though. Although Half-Life is by no means beyond critisism I think it shows just what the medium of games can accomplish in both storytelling and emmersion.

I have a list of games I think everyone should play at least once. The capitalized ones should be mandatory; the others should be required gaming for anyone who's serious about the hobby.

OCARINA OF TIME

Resident Evil Code: Veronica

RESIDENT EVIL 4

Fallout 3

DUCK HUNT

Contra

Mortal Kombat 2 and 3

SILENT HILL 2

Men of Valor

Doom 1, 2, and 3

ANY OF THE FIRST 3 MARIO GAMES

Halo 1

System Shock 2

Bioshock

Far Cry: Instincts

Self explanatory.

What game or series do you think every gamer must play in their life time?

I got the idea for this when I was PMing someone who said they have never played Zelda. I don't know how that's possible, but apparently it is.

So that's my answer. I think every gamer has to play at least one Zelda game.
The thief series, Jade Empire, and the first ratchet and clank.. Also, Jade Cocoon (if you can get hold of it).
