A good console RTS was done with Pikmin and Pikmin 2...

But on-topic, no game genre should be limited to a specific platform. Restricting genres would be one of the fastest ways to kill that genre, along with any innovation that can be made with it.

Games where the control scheme has no way to translate should not be forced upon a console, as written by the OP, and as rejected by the kneejerkers who immediately responded to the thread title.

Yeah! LETS SEE SOME EMPIRE: TOTAL WAR ON THE PS3

THAT WILL BE AWESOME

There are some RTS schemes that can work on a console, however.

FPSs on the other hand seem better suited on consoles. Lets face it you need the 360 degree analog stick to strafe effectively or even just shoot whats behind you fast enough.
And if the enemy pops out to your side, what?

I've never had problems with quick turns and strafing with the M/K combo.

You could just buy a USB controller, I have one too BTW, but why not just play it on your console in the first place?!?
Ummm... because I don't own a console?

Games that should stay on consoles and consoles only are any games with quick time events. Shit just feels wrong while on the PC.
Especially when the fuckarses who port the game don't bother to change the QTEs indicators. Showing that I should be mashing a yellow button on a Fisher-Price Gametard Pad doesn't help me when I'm using a keyboard, you fuckheads.

To quote... well, every other person, none. Let people play games the way they want to. If you want to play an FPS with a Guitar Hero guitar, be my guest. And send me a video, because that's pretty awesome.

Shooter titles also should primarily be on PC, since the Keyboard and mouse interface is much more intuitive than the controller, but it can still work for the console.
That is entirely a matter of personal preference at this point. One is not innately more intuitive than the other IMO.

If we're talking the default control systems, yes... Get race wheels for both and I know which system I'd prefer - the one that has more grunt.

EDIT: I think that console games should either stay on console or should get a proper PC port.
Indeed. I like how when a publisher pushes out a fucked up, broken PC port and it sells poorly they point and scream about pirates instead of starting to think that maybe PC gamers actually have some fucking self respect. Just a bit. A tiny bit.

yeah... might be a bit tricky there.

I used to play a few FPS games with a graphics tablet.

edit to add: oh yeah, tablets are fucking AWESOME to use for RTS games and the like if your tablet is a decent size.

Simulation/God games should really only be on PC in my opinion.
Moving "Sims" around a small town is boring enough without the consoles taking away the only fun parts of the equation; the building of the lovely houses and trapping them in bathrooms.
Consoles controls are far too counter intuitive [for these type of games] and i think SimCity4 would suck on a console. Because i love it and its staying on my PC.

I disagree to a point.

I agree that it's a matter of personal preference, which is generally created by amassing experience with whichever control system.

However I've talked to a number of Developmental Educators and the like and when it comes to intuitive at it's most basic level - as in having no prior experience with either control system - the mouse/keyboard system has the edge because of the mouse. The mouse is intuitive... the keyboard isn't and the controller isn't.

On the other hand, when most people talk about 'intuitive controls' they tend to mean in relation to existing control systems... And anything that doesn't piss about with how the controls are mapped into the game is going to be intuitive to anyone with some experience at using that control system. For example, WASD keys for FPS movement on PC M/K control systems is intuitive whereas using the Function Keys would be counterintuitive.

No genres. Consoles should support keyboard/mouse control, and PC's already have a much larger number of controllers and peripherals than consoles.
The only thing I don't see really working with PC's is lightguns, and LCD screens have already killed those off to the arcade anyway.

As a PC gamer who uses a gamepad while playing a lot of games I realize its entirely down to preference and the controls are not the reason why people prefer their favorite system.

Even point-and-click adventure games have been proven to work on consoles with enough tweaking. The Secret Of Monkey Island Special Edition was proof of that when it came out on XBLA. And anything can work fine on PC simply by choosing if you want to use KB&M or a gamepad.

Personally I really wish PC's would get some fighting games like Tekken and Soul Calibur, because there's no reason they can't work among the PC gamers who are not so stubborn that they refuse to use a gamepad like its fucking sacrilege or something.

As soon as we're allowed to use keyboards and mice on consoles, it's irrelevant.
Still waiting for any of the leading consoles to do this.
Then consoles would inch ever closer to the PC and the PC gaming master race would have a shit fit.

I love my gaming PC, but god do I enjoy watching PC fanboys whine.

IMO the PC can do anything. If you don't like your keyboard then just plug a controller in - there's really no reason it can't do everything a console can.

However, RTS games on the consoles just really don't work. You need to be very fast and having a ton of hotkeys is pretty much mandatory.

Thinking over it, I should say, as soon as we're allowed to use keyboards and mice in console games. IIRC doesn't the PS3 let you hook a keyboard up?

I want the BF series to be PC exclusive again. The bad company games just can't match to the earlier games like BF2 in my opinion. The consoles have their limits to big games like that.

Umm... it's not impossible for consoles to use keyboard and mouse, and console controllers can be hooked up to PCs. So no game genre, with whatever control scheme, is theoretically beyond either platform.

Keys move you forward, backwards and side-to-side, the mouse points you in the right direction (faster than an analogue stick does) so this doesn't make much sense.

MMO's will probably stay PC for a long time, if only because they are so communication heavy. I also can't imagine little jimmy explaining to mum why he need $20 a month on top of the $60 game on top of the $40 a year to play one game online with total strangers.

Platformers don't work on PC, unless you plug in a console controller.

Too late, you said none first!

Sooner or later, you're going to log in and be greeted with a Mafia Wars ad, there's no escape, not for anyone.
