what game has stolen the most time whilst you were actually doing nothing in the game

World of Warcraft
Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds (just waiting for things to build/research took far too long at times)
Gears of War 1 (finding games used to piss me off, I had a pretty poor internet connection at the time as well)
Team Fortress 2/CSS (waiting for games to load, though my tinme on CSS was very short lived)

All I can think of for now.

for me it would be fallout 3 as i have spent so much time aimlessly walking about doing absolutely nothing

Welcome to the Escapist, but one of the main problems new members, such as yourself, seem to have is repeating threads. I'll let it slide because you're fairly new, but some people think it's their duty to come down hard on you. The search bar is your friend.

OT- definitely Oblivion. It destroyed my life for about four or five months, then it got progressively better after that, since I had started to get a feel for the game, and I also started to lose the sensation that if I didn't play, I would die XD

Mass Effect doesn't come anywhere close, but it snuck in at 2nd. 007 Nightfire I think takes the bronze.

Final Fantasy XII. I've played it for about 62 hours, but my counter reads up in the hundreds, because I usually leave it on when I'm playing, and then have to go out, or have dinner, or I'm doing something completely mindless like reading a book.

Prototype comes to mind. Running up buildings and slaughtering for fun took up a lot of my time. xD

Shadow of the Colossus. Exploring is so much fun in that game.

Most of you won't have thought of it, but Fable 2's money earning mini-games are probably the largest waste of time ever.

Aren't you able to earn cash while not even playing the game as well?

WoW is the biggest time-waster for me, I often get bored and become one of the thing I hate most in the world: A troll!
I know it's terrible but sometimes when I've been trying to trade and some gimp is shouting Kanye West style about the size of his knob I give in to the urge to verbally humiliate them. I know there's an ignore button but eventually the list gets pretty full

Oblivion tends to eat my time, and that time is technically wasted since I tend to just start a new name soon after the last.

For true time wasting I'd go with Buronout paradise, I would just drive around aimlessly crashing into the occasional billboard.
