Grand Theft Auto 4. When I played it at my cousin's, I spent the first 2+ hours just driving. Not killing anyone, not shooting, not stealing, just driving.
You played GTA4 at your cousin's? Did he call you on his cellphone and ask if you want to go bowling?
Thanks for the laughs, my chest almost hurts right now because of that joke.

OT: Probably all the time in Shadow Complex I spent trying to figure out if I was going through the one correct path to get to where I wanted to go. Especially when there was those damn elevators involved. Someone really should have double-checked the map to make sure the empty squares actually allow you to move forward.

Skate for the 360

The Freeskater achievement was probably the first 360 achievement I got on my own console, come to think of it. I've spent hours and hours trying to best my own top line scores while just skating around the entire town.... I like skateboard games. The first Tony Hawk for PSX is probably second place; 100k+ on the first level was always fun.

I'd probably consider beating highscores "doing something" though, so GTA (really any of them, from first to last) is probably the obvious candidate. Still the epitome of sandbox games after all.

EDIT: Oh wait, I just realised something. Police Quest. There we have it.
LOOK THROUGH HOLE. *sigh* LOOK IN HOLE. *sigh* LOOK IN THE PIGEONHOLE. GET NOTE. *grrr* TAKE THE NOTE. READ THE NOTE ....

I just thought I would put this post up asking people which game they have spent the most time on actually doing nothing

for me it would be fallout 3 as i have spent so much time aimlessly walking about doing absolutely nothing

second place is World of Warcraft(when i used to play it)
*ahem*

Welcome! Welcome to Escapistmagazine.com! You have chosen, or been chosen, to relocate to one of our finest remaining Internet Utopias. I thought so much of Escapistmagazine.com, that I elected to establish my administration, here, in the Forums, so thoughtfully provided by our Moderators. I am proud to call Escapistmagazine.com my home. And so, whether you are here to stay, or passing through to parts unknown, welcome, to Escapistmagazine.com. It's safer here.

Now that the introductions are out of the way, Im going to say the original rogue, as I spent a load of time searching for doors.
thanks for the very nice welcome

I would also probably have to say Fallout3 is definitely up there. Thing is, there's so much to do in that game.
So the top spot has to probably go to gta San Andreas. Sometimes I would just drive around listening to Master Sounds and drive by-ing/running -over the occasional cop/ped.

The first Unreal, when it came out. I'm not usually a sucker for eye candy, but holy shit the graphics on that game were FUCKING AWESOME TO THE POWER OF FANTASTIC. I spent far more time than I've ever done before or since (yes, even in Crysis) staring at the moving clouds, the beautiful landscapes, the water, the forcefields... *sigh*

Either GuildWars, Fallout 3 or Morrowind. Granted, Morrowind's "nothing" was more running around like a cracked-up Olympic gymnast, climbing roofs and cliffs and running on water with my trusty water-walking boots.

A very old game called Emperor of the Fading Suns.

Cripes I have spent HOURS playing that terrible, oddly immersive game.
