Yes, we've seen threads talking about all these horrible, ungrateful, stupid fanbases, but I have yet to see one that talks about the really good fanbases. So, Escapists, I ask you: which game or game series do you think has the best fanbase? What makes them the best to you? Are they polite? Creative? Funny? Intelligent? Please do tell.
For me, it would have to be (big shock) Doom's fanbase. The fans, rather than complain about the game's flaws or how it doesn't get many new installments, constantly add more to it. Recently, I've been playing Risen 3D. It's a Doom engine source port that gives the game high resolution textures and full 3D enemies, weapons, items and decorations. As you can tell by my avatar, you can't really beat the original sprites, but that doesn't change the fact that someone took the time to put a different view on a game they love. Risen 3D isn't the only example of this either as far as Doom goes. We've got Jdoom, Zdoom, and all these other source ports with no purpose other than to add new and interesting features to Doom. Not only that, but the mapmaking community still thrives to this day. Are all of these maps good? Of course not, but that doesn't change the devotion these fans (including me) have to this game.
Now, in case you forgot across my large, somewhat ranty paragraph, I ask you again: Which game or game series do you think has the best fanbase?
