"Chrono Trigger" I believe. There is no track from that game that I hate, I can also say the same thing for "Scott Pilgrim vs The World The Game" and "Rocket Knight Adventures" but Trigger has something special about its soundtrack.

Banjo-Kazooie. It's been nearly 5 years since I last played that game and the theme is still stuck in my head.

It's actually a mod, but Neotokyo is by far the best OST for a game I've heard. There are other strong contenders, but I'm a big fan.

That link should take you to a playlist on YouTube for the first CD in the soundtrack. If you don't like more electronic/synthetic oriented music then it's probably not for you, but if you're at least okay with it I'd recommend giving it a shot.

Any halo game

Sure other games had some awesome songs for the main theme, or some specific part in the game, but for overall quality, Halo never fails to deliver. And for the Brütal Legend OST, that would qualify too, but Halo gets extra kudos because all of the songs are made just for the game itself.

I will never forget the masoleum battle in Halo 2. For me that was the best audio-gameplay synergy moment in the entire video game history.

I liked DJ hero's soundtrack, but I doubt many people on this site will agree with me.

As for instrumentals, I like most of what the FF and Zelda series produce.
I love them all. "We will robot rock you!"

I also love the Castle Crashers soundtrack.

And I totally agree on Morrowind's soundtrack. Better than Oblivion's, I thought. That could just be the nostalgia talking though...

My contribution:

I think a great many videogame soundtracks are really excellent. For me there isn't a best one. I guess I'm just easily pleased. But one game which I didn't expect to have marvellous music and really took me by surprise, was Mirror's Edge.

I also agree Morrowind's soundtrack was better than Oblivion's and excellent call on Mirror's Edge the music in that game was perfect for framing the whole story and environment.

My pick is Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

I wonder how many game soundtrack threads I've seen here... It was just a couple days ago when I last answered to one. Doesn't matter that much, but was just wondering.

Fallout 3, Rise of Nations, Civilizations IV & V. And many others.

I would say Earthbound, that game has so many brilliant songs like "smiles and tears" and has a huge number songs that come from many different genres of music. (Blues, Metal, Jazz, you name it it is probably there.)

Excellent choice. I totally forgot that one, 'cause I've only listened to the album and know nothing about the game, other than how Amon Tobin is affiliated with it.

Dark Void, pretty much the most underrated soundtrack in the video game industry. Scored by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, etc, you know, the guy with the awesome percusion.).

Diablo. Man. Besides being incredibly addictive and generally kick-ass it also had a really great soundtrack. Matt Uelmen better be working on D3. Or else.

Homeworld 2 is a game that makes space look beautiful as well as lonely. The soundtrack supplements the visuals and storyline in a better way than most games manage.
