Shenmue 2 was probably the ending that affected me the most. For those who aren't enlightened, after four discs of puzzling, running, investigating and fighting your way through Hong Kong's underworld and the gang-run streets of Kowloon, bumping into a huge variety of colourful characters along the way, the entire fourth disc starts with you arriving alone in the middle of the Chinese countryside. And for the entire rest of the disc, you're just walking through a forest.
I won't say much more, because I don't want to spoil it. All I'll say is, it's the most unusually submersive couple hours of gaming I've ever experienced.

Black, simply for the utterly massive gunfight at the end. One of the best bits from any game I've played.
Mass Effect did have a rather good ending. The Final Battle was very climactic no matter what ending you chose, the final fight against Saren was stellar and don't even get me started on climbing the side of the council tower. Then there was that ultra cliche'd "oh my goodness, did they die...no, of course not' bit, but it worked in the story so I didn't hate it.Archindar said:

The original Call of Duty sticks in my mind. Shooting through Germans while everything around explodes to finally stick the flag atop the Reichstag. Awesome.

I had the privilege of owning the PC version of this game with the extended and better rendered cutscenes than those embarrisingly crappy console versions with subtitles instead of real audio dialogue.
To bad that the succesor to it Fade To Black was as fun as playing with camel droppings.

I also loved Braids ending. Most of the story wasn't that great (don't give me that "open to interpritation" shit) but the ending was very clever.
But in general video game endings are just BAD! Look at Bioshock. Great story, fantastic twist, but the ending is tacked on and pointless, for both good and evil.
Really? I loved the game, and the final boss battle, but I wasn't overly impressed with the ending cinematic on the Destiny Islands. Before then, in the world of Darkness and all that, good stuff, but the letter was a bit of a cop-out, methinks. Hmm, maybe I'll take it back when they get round to releasing a proper sequel.UncleUlty said:
