Hello fellow Escapists, I'm looking for some advice. I'd like to get my orchestra to play some awesome videogame music, with shots/video from the game playing on a screen overhead while we play (not an original idea, but would be a first for our orchestra) and I'm looking to put together an example programme or two to take to our music director so I can pitch the idea to her and the conductor.

So here's what I'd like:

YOUR suggestions for good orchestral pieces from videogames! Plus appropriate game footage to go with them, if you feel so inspired. The only thing to note is that it needs to be playable by an orchestra without getting too many additional exotic instruments or equipment. We can probably get some, but I think it's probably a good idea not to get too avant-garde for the initial pitch.

I await your inspiration!

Agreed.
At that, I'd say anything from the Halo series. It all has great music.

I got this I got this:

The Oblivion Theme (Reign of the Septims I believe it is called)
-Use the opening bit and some of that stuff

The Legend of Zelda theme
-I smell gameplay montage

The Halo Theme (I'm sorry, but Marty O'Donnell knows how to write an effective piece of music)
-Definitely use space/battle cinematic footage

God of war man its eerie, deep, and powerful.
I second this, and would like to add "One-Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy 7, and anything from the Metal Gear games to it.

As the others have said just about anything from Halo, although the Legend of Zelda theme and Prelude to Fantasy would also be great.

The Oblivion theme has already been mentioned, so...

Parts of it sound rather similar to the Oblivion theme.

Just an amazing song. You could have a whole Shadow of the Colossus concert.

That one might be too fast-paced, or the wrong instruments, for your orchestra, but there are tons of great songs in Pokemon.

This surely wins.besides it has the least amount of instruments needed for a theme
[edit]you only need a string quartet, 1 trumpet, 1 horn, 1 trombone and keyboard samplers.
the discription said that's what it was composed with.
