Guitar Hero/DJ Hero/Rock Band needs to go. It was a novelty. It made billions of dollars and was hugely successful. Now it's time to get back to real gaming.
not until they're finished with clarinet hero. it's my turn to shine!
In that case, I see your Clarinet Hero and raise you Trombone and Euphonium Hero. I also want to shine.

As someone who has been playing Guitar Hero since its release, and someone who has watched it go from sleeper hit to pop-culture phenomenon to dated fad in just three years, I think Activision needs to stop. I don't mind DLC, but Neversoft has milked this franchise to its death.
Well, the arcadyness of Guitar Hero makes it not seem to bad to me. I mean, whats so wrong about a cd of new songs that dont take up memory? Just view em as DLC discs. Im Not made of memory ya know (been tetering on my last gig of space for awhile)

I don't think any should die really, but a lot of franchises got ruined by excessive releases. If you are going to keep milking the series can't you at least put some of your billions into improving the game enough so we don't all ***** about it?

I subscribe to the Yhatzee school of thought that sequels should be seen only sparingly, and then only when they bloody bring something new to a given game, and not, for example, simply extending the already-tenuous story line with the same mechanics, same contrivances, and same tedium.

Yes Overlord 2, I'm looking at you.

So yeah, bottom line, lets bloody end ALL sequels, because lets face it, the times when they actually bring something new are few and far in between - aside from fervently milking a cow that once proved abundant.

Cases in point are many. FIFA, Madden, Championship Manager, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Super Mario, Sonic, Call of Duty, Max Payne, F.E.A.R., Halo, etc. all simply resulted in a sequel for sequel's sake.

Naturally, thank god Half-life 2 came to be of course, and I deeply enjoyed Baldur's Gate II and its expansion, along with Mass Effect 2 - so not all sequels are bad.

I suppose the worst side-effect that sequels come with is that they stifle creativity. Who wants to risk making a game that people might not like when they could create a game people won't love but won't hate either, and will probably buy it out of loyalty towards the previous iteration?

I think Nintendo needs to kill off Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc. They are just relying on the same characters and the same basic gameplay premise and they have been for years. Just because they're Nintendo doesn't mean they don't have to come up with new and interesting stories and characters. When's the last time you've played a Mario game and didn't know you would fight bowser at the end? It's just the same old song and dance as far as I'm concerned only they change a step or two with every new release.

They're coming out with a green day addition of guitar hero now....
Actually that's Rock Band, not that it matters though.

And I'm sure this has already been said by someone else, but Fable franchise should never have existed. It's garbage, and for the life of me I do not understand why it is so popular.
There isn't really a difference between the two is there? The point is that Green Day is one of the most overrated bands ever, and any music game having 75% of their music in it will most definetely suck, and has to die and go away.

I'd like to contradict everybody who says they want the Final Fantasy games to stop.

If they didn't call these games Final Fantasy, then how would I know which games I will not like?

Square needs to stop. They've stopped making good games. If anyone else released what they do it'd be blasted to hell and regarded as a failure.
Maybe I'm too ambiguous in my tired state. I was implying (in a failed attempt at humour) that I dislike the vast majority of Final Fantasy games and I am glad that they are titled under the same franchise so that I know I should avoid them.

Oh I know, but Square, for the most part, has stopped being able to make varied and interesting games. Most of them are all the same shit and those that aren't are mediocre at best. It's like they know their fans will eat up anything they make.
That is certainly a part of it. But they're also fuelled on pretension. If they really wanted, they could make a fully 8-bit game for Final Fantasy 15, and the fans will eat it up as retro, and going back to their roots, etc. Hell, I'm inclined to believe that it might actually end up being a legitimately better game than what they've been making. But what's the fun of leaving things to the imagination when you can shove everything down people's throats, right?
