Both PC RTSs that tried to do something different. I love them both.

currently i've been playing Dystopia. its a FPS built off the HL2 engine. You have to fight in both the real world and cyberspace to capture/defend objectives. You have to find "jack-in points" (fancy computer terminals) in the real world to get to cyberspace, then when inside you have to disable viruses and fight off other players who are jacking in to turn on defense turrets, open doors, or capture spawn points in the real world. It takes a lot of cooperation within the team to win because if your pals arent defending you body in the real world while you jack in you're a sitting duck for the enemy. Free off steam, i recommend you check it out. Come find me as Twisted_Idiot if you do

Koudelka and Fear Effect. for the PS1. Both really good, but really hard.

In Koudelka I got to the area after you break out of a jail cell. Love the dialogue.
MaleLead: "Well why didn't you even try their food? It seemed rather rude"
Koudelka: "WELL I WOULD HAVE IF IT HADN'T BEEN POISONED!"
ML: "...ulp... You could have told me.." :D

In fear effect I got stuck on the first level. Didn't have enough SMG ammo to beat the first boss, and afterwards couldn't even get there again...

Both good, but I don't think many have heard of them. Koudelka is a Survival Horror RPG with limited ammo, and Fear Effect is a shooter with the Resident Evil 1 Engine.

Much of the stuff every at least slightly geeky Gamer knows about (the Oddworld Games, Zeno Clash, The Path, Shadow of the Colossus, Defense Grid...) but is unknown to most casual or mainstream gamer.
Shadow of the colossus is not a game 'not many people have heard of' you idiot.
Ask the whole "Madden/Halo/Need for Speed" Folk for it and they won't know.

Also

a) Read my fucking post

b) It's not nice to insult people, just because i think you are a dipshit does not mean i call you that, do i?
hey, pudding head, I read your post and shadow of the dam colossus does not qualify as a game not many people have heard of, sorry.
Hehe, pudding head, nice :D Gotta agree with the original poster though, you mention Shadow of the Colossus to most Halo-3-playing gamers they won't have heard of it. Most of my friends certainly haven't anyway.

2d Metroids(most know the 3d ones, and some even zero mission but not the classic known as super metroid)
Curtain shooters, though im bad at them.
and most crappy Anime inspired games.
Whoa! gotta disagree with you about the 2D Metroids. Not knowing Super Metroid is akin to not knowing the original Super Mario Bros. Not everyone has played it admittedly, but any gamer worth his salt will have heard of it.

Thing that some people probably have heard of: Wizardry 8.

Thing that barely anyone I find has heard of: Soulbringer.

I agree, Warlords Battlecry 2 was extremely fun.

One of my favorite games of all time is Troddlers for the SNES, and I've never met a single person who's heard of it.

The only two that come to mind are Bahamut Lagoon and Chaos Legion. Those were some pretty awesome games.
