I got around to buying a PS3 a few months ago and recently bought Ratchet and Clank : Tools of Destruction. I remember playing the first ratchet and clank game on the ps2 and I'm still enjoying it.
So my question is what game series do you love and if so what to you think has kept it fresh. I think its the humour in R&C for me.
Halo 2 was the first real video game I've ever played, so I then of course immediately went and bought Halo CE, and then when it came out, Halo 3, then ODST, and I've preordered Reach. So, yeah, Halo.
hummm let's think
Baldur's Gate... (can say the whole Bioware RPG games, i followed them since Baldur's Gate 1)
Gears of War
Command & Conquer
Resident Evil
Pokemon! I've only missed a few because of color preference but I've always had at least one of the main games. Crystal is the only filler game I've missed out on and, Fire Red/ Leaf Green is the only main one I've missed out on but I figure that is forgivable because I grew up with the original Red and Blue.
I've also played through the Halo series with the exception of Wars.
Unreal Tournament, because of its pace and the enjoyment I get from playing it, and arena FPS's in general.
Guild Wars, because it has great PvP (and combat), a good community and a shitload of dope environments. I can't wait for Guild Wars 2.
GTA, it's the only game that excites me any more. It's like Christmas as a child for me when a new GTA is released, and none of them have disappointed. They're all fucking great.
I loved Splinter Cell as well up until Conviction, it's just not the same.
Without a single down, the MGS series. They are each masterpieces, each divulging into different, interesting subjects such as memes, genes, scene, the illuminati plot, gene manipulation, the violence of warfare, the irrelevance of enemies, and the morality of warfare, to name I few I spotted. Each character has a past, hobbies, ideals; all of these things make me genuinely interested in them, and genuinely saddened if they die. The gameplay itself is fun, intuitive and free. Various strategies can be used, and using the various items is easy, and quick. The Codec provides the most interesting system I have seen so far in a game, allowing for a hints system as well as a means to know more about the plot, various characters, items, weapons, and current objective. There is no need for a compass, an objective screen, and other such things. Just the player, the pause menu, and the Codec. All of this is without mentioning the perfect timing of the various jokes and puns, and the pure devastating emotions blows the series inflicts upon you.
People that say that the series is boring, and that cutscenes are long, miss the point of the entire Saga completely. I dare anyone who has played all 4, (not 6, don't worry) games, to respond, and tell me they didn't cry, or come very close to at any point during the series.
"What's wrong with E.E.?"
"I finally understand. I wasn't waiting to kill someone. I was waiting for someone to kill me..."
lesse, anything with the word "BIOWARE" stamped onto it, the Metal Gear Solid series, and...umm...I think that's it off the top of my head. Oh yes, and The Soul Calibur series (my secret shame)
The Halo series, ever since I first picked up the original for PC (which I still play sometimes ). Despite being late to the ODST party, only receiving it on Sunday for my 20th birthday, I'm ardently looking forward to Reach now. Plus I collect all the backstory stuff as well (I made a point of getting the Halo Wars Limited Edition purely for the accompaniment graphic novella, and I'm planning to get the newest comics, Uprising and Bloodlines, in hardback pretty soon ).
Bioshock and Mario are the only ones I can truly claim I have followed. Mario is a stretch though, since I only play the proper games and haven't picked up Galaxy 2 or Bowser's Inside Story yet.
Zelda - Even though I don't own a Wii yet - I will come Christmas
Mass Effect
The old SSI Gold box games on the C64 - I still play these to this day
Assassins Creed - Have beaten both numerous times
