None. Like what has been said before, if people enjoy them, why should they stop? If you don't like it, don't play it.

Nothing. I'm not so selfish as to wish a game series to stop purely because I never liked it or don't like where it's going. If I don't like a series anymore I just stop buying it's games.
Way to take the thread too seriously up there on your moral high-ground.

OT: CoD or Halo.
Halo ended with Halo Reach, well Bungie said they arent makin games for it anymore.

Silent Hill. The 4th was still OK, but ever since then Konami has been practicing necrophilia the way Pyramid Head did in the second game. Stop raping a corpse, please, just bury it already, it was great while it lasted, but unless you make a big big change in the series, we will all be saying how all this sucks in comparison to Silent Hill 2 :)

Then there's other series like Resident Evil or Call of Duty, but I personally don't give a fuck, to me they always sucked. The tragedy is with SH.

Yes, BUNGIE said they wouldn't, but Microsoft isn't going to let their cash-cow die and is making another one, I'd dig up the link for you... But... It's late.

+1 for Final Fantasy. I'm sorry for the fans who can't see that this train got derailed quite some time ago.

Half-Life. If Valve isn't going to give us some idea of who the G-man is, or have Adrian Shepard come back, then it's going to get stale in comparison to their better ideas. Look at how popular Episode 2 was in comparison to the rest of the Orange Box.

I understand, I already know of the Combat Evolved remake coming out this year, but its been 10 years, I think its understandable.

actually 343 industry owns the intellectual property, Microsoft still only publishes the game.

Pretty much anything made by Nintendo, how many more times can they release the same games every year.
tl;dr = I disagree.

I'm a Nintendo fan myself (not a fanboi though) so take this with a grain of salt, but you have to remember that most Nintendo franchises go way back to the 8-bit era, and so have a multi-generation fan base. While they may be "the same games", both the fan base and number of imitations have proven the games to be borderline perfect, and you can't improve on perfection. There's a reason New Super Mario Bros. bears such close resemblance to Super Mario Bros. 3 (besides nostalgia value) - the SMB3 formula is a masterpiece of game design. The popularity of these franchises are somewhat of a double-edged sword for Nintendo, because if they take the series in a new direction they'll face fan backlash on how it's not a "true" Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Kirby/etc. game, and if they decide to end the franchise they'll get further fan backlash for killing off their beloved characters. Their only real option is to make "the same game" again, delivering what their fans want.

So, I disagree they should end those series (I'm always looking forward to the next Zelda/Metroid installment, and I'm far from alone), but they should also devote resources to developing new games in different areas (and not just more Mii shit). I'd like to see them do something more artsy (Kirby's Epic Yarn was a step in the right direction, but that game sucked ass). Besides the latter two Smash Bros. installments (the characters look PERFECT - exactly how they should) Windwaker was the last game from Nintendo to deliver an impressive art style.

Also, it's funny nobody has mentioned Castlevania yet. That series has been going as long as any Nintendo franchise, and since Symphony of the Night there have been few major changes in gameplay mechanics. Not that Castlevania should go away or anything, they're awesome games :3

ahh yeah if CoD ended I would have nothing to play. Everyone hates on CoD but they are really good shooter games, very fast paced and fun, and they only get better with each instalment.

As for me, game series like Mass Effect and Dragon Age and any of those rubbish 3rd person, single player games can be cancelled.

Yeah, Call of Duty, part 4 was great, but why in the hell do we need the other three parts? Oh yeah to have insane people who will tell you:"Man, the story of Black Ops was totally cool, way better than anything else" and I thought it was weird ans seizure inducing up to borderline retarded. Yeah also sport games with years, but this was already mentioned a million times.

Captcha.

Fucking Captcha.

They have been consistently bad in all respects, no story, awful gameplay, and my god just look at the graphics!

Ratchet & Clank... they just keep re-treading the same ground. Nothing much has changed since the second game (there have now been 6 full games and one "episodic" style game). They should lay it to rest and come up with a new IP. They clearly have a lot of creative people in their studio, but I think all their creativity on this particular project has been spent.

Personally, I don't think any should "End" as such but reinvent itself. Games like Call of Duty and (one of my favourite series) Gears of war just feel like expansion packs with little more to offer.
