No. Shadow of the Colossus has no story. It's good in that it allows you to create your own, but it's got nothing beyond that. Oh, and Agro.

Storywise, either Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, or Bioshock. I thought they were lovely and I didn't expect the twist from Bioshock at all.

Mafia, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Half-Life 2.

All fairly different ways of tackling video game stories, all superb. I suppose Sands of Time is the middle-ground between the other two.

Metal Gear tells a very interesting (if somewhat long winded and convoluted) story. Each game has a different theme and if you can stick out the cutscenes, there's a deep story there beneath the nanomachines and superbabies.

My votes for Shadow of the Colossus
OK, clarification.

Do you mean which game has theb est story, or the best storytelling?

My reward for best story goes to Mass Effect. My reward for best storytelling is split between Homeworld and Halo: Reach.

I vote for Kotor.

It takes elements from another great story, and created an original masterpiece. Not to mention it has one of the greatest twist in gaming.

Depends what you want. For a story more akin to a movie, ie. short and concise, then I'd have to say Dreamfall: The Longest Journey or it's predecessor.

But my favourite of all is better compared to a book, immersing you as it does in the setting and plot for 50+ hours. Planescape: Torment.

Final Fantasy VII/IX/X

These three had the struggles that helped you relate to characters and really get involved into the story with them

I would give this title to Shadow of Destiny, a great little PS2 game (also on the PC and PSP). It's basically an adventure game set in a 3D world in which you must go back in time to prevent your own murder. It has 5 different main endings that drastically change the story so it's almost like 5 stories in 1.

Of course, I have to give the Metal Gear Solid series a mention because it is awesome. Also, Deus Ex was great.

I'm thinking best story goes to Bioshock. My best storytelling reward goes to Dragon Age: Origins. Sure, it was a cliché story but, damn it, it was told in a good way...

I think, anyway.

Since Psychonauts has already been mentioned I say Planescape:Torment. Shadow of the Colossus has a very interesting twist at the end but the story itself is pretty standard in my opinion. (I've been told though, that it gains a whole new quality if you've played Ico which I didn't so maybe I'm not the right person to judge SotC's story)

Pac-Man with it's story of hope and loss, life and death and the symbolism of the maze that says "no matter what you decide to do in life, you are always stuck in a maze that leads to your inevitable doom."

I think the Halo franchise has a very interesting story, better than most FPS games now. Its a shame that some people that play it dont know how much more there is to the games. In my opinion anyway.

No More Heroes 1+2; it's Suda51, need I say more?
Also, the 1st half of Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy, before it went sci-fi
