Now before you start answering, let me explain. I bought Dead Space (the first one) at launch which was Oct 08 I blieve. Yesterday I finished chapter 10. Since Oct 08 I've put in a little over 12 hours into the game and still have yet to beat it. When I say longest time, I don't mean hours put into the game, I mean actual amount of time since you started until you finished the game.

Once I beat FF9, I think that'll take the cake. I started it aT launch, made it to the 2nd dics, stopped playing, but someday I will finish it.

EDIT: Guys! I finally just finished Dead Space! So as of this moment, it's probably the game it's taken me the longest amount of time to beat. After 2 and a half years I've finally completed a 12 hour game. :D Huzzah!

Probably WoW - 1-2 years before I got the most desirable gear one could have (Mounts, sets & weapons, skills, gold).

Than the major patch came... And I had to redo the fucking thing. Sigh!

Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. I bought it about 2005/2006, I still haven't beaten it. I love the game, just in small very spaced out segments.

Probably Fallout 3 Took from Fall 08 to Winter 09-10 to beat the Main story-line quests and all the little BS side quests

Rocket Ranger, a title for the NES. I got it for Christmas in 1992. The game did it's damnedest to be impossible to beat. You had an "open world" (for the time) and it was perfectly possible to run out of time (the alien invaders win) or fuel (you can no longer contest their movements around the world). Worse still, the game had no save feature. Playing the game required, at a minimum, rescuing a famous scientist by assaulting the zeppelin carrying him, raiding numerous sites for additional fuel, collecting parts for a rocket and finally assaulting the alien moon base. Played efficiently, I suspect the game could be beaten in six hours though the time is incredibly variable. To compound the lack of save functionality there was the fact that the NES switched itself off if left unattended for too long meaning you couldn't simply pause and walk away.

I never beat it as a child. More than a decade later I pulled my NES out of a bin and gave it another try and at long last beat the game. There are other games that stand as worthy contenders and supposing I beat them at some point I guess they would replace the top game but I suspect this is unlikely. My free time is a bit too scarce to be spent playing some 20 year old relic of a game.

Tales of Vesperia.

I love the game, but it took me 10 months of on/of playing to beat it. And that's JUST the main story. I didn't even try for 100% completion.

Time taken.... ages.

I challenge anyone, of any age, to complete this; without cheating. By quick saving / using savestaes on an emulator.

Games 'now-a-days' are more a question of when, not if, you will complete them.

Probably Pokemon Gold: 216 hours, 40 minutes I think (I no longer have the save)
I have Fallout and Oblivion saves that are far longer (250 and 400 hours respectively), but its difficult to define what you would call 'finished' on those? Main quest? done. All sidequests? no idea, there are probably a few unmarked ones left. On Gold, I had all 251 Pokemon (and all the Unknown variations too; last two Pokemon were the new Eevee evolutions), beat every trainer, collected every item I could and so forth.

i'd say that Xenogears, the best JRPG i ever played, good story and reaaaaally long, i'd say a year or something with all the side stories and mini quests plus hiden traces of the past of the Characters.

I consider beating Pokemon "defeating the Elite Four, becoming champion, and catching Mewtwo," in which case Pokemon Yellow took me 12 years.

140 hrs on Persona 3 Fes for both the Journey and the Answer. The game itself is 100+ hrs combined. But I wanted to get the second playthrough to have Orpheus Telos (who's a ***** to get if you odnt rely on FAQs and Guides).

Fixed your link. I probably put 100+ hours into that title which was unheard of in games at the time. Man that was one epic title. I demand a remake! Xenosaga sucked!
Xenosaga isnt even the same game, though they bought the story, they treated it like a "tales of destiny" game saga, changing not just the optic of the game but its freedom (camera, side quests etc), its choises, and many more, i agree i want a remake too!

(thanks for fixin the link! how do you do that?)

I wonder if the guys of extra credits have played this game?
