People sure choose a lot of heroic fantasy and war settings, considering that the starting point for 99% of these is "everybody you know and love dies".

That said, I think my own preference for quite some years was the Marathon verse, so I'm one to talk. The difference between choosing Marathon and choosing Halo is about 8 years of graphics tech and 800 years of story.

Something heroic fantasy, but closer to golden axe than final fantasy (partly for flavour of it, and partly because I hate the way a lot of ff characters look).

Whilst I wouldn't want to be there, there would be something cool about being in silent hill, just to prove what wimps the main characters are.
