What gameplay feature can ruin a game within 1 hr?

I just bought Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II recently, and played it for the past hour or so.

The game itself is quite action-y, and I can't help but wonder how the force "prodigy" Luke would have fared against the bloke I was playing.

Anyway - To the feature that ruined it all!:

The game kept removing my controls to explain to me how to do something like "S" to walk backwards or whathaveyou. Fair enough, I understand that LucasArts have to include the under 5s in a game where you electrocute soldiers constantly.

It may not be cutscenes but it is rather flow breaking when this asshat is essentially Sonic the Hedgehog with a lightsaber, and the immersion or whatever you might have had is somewhat undermined by seeing your character stand dead-still while 50 storm-troopers crowd around you and keep firing into your face.

I played black and white 2 and it did this as well - Constantly removing controls. I think the words most frequently spoken aloud the past hour has been "WILL YOU LET ME PLAY MY FUCKING GAME ALREADY"

So, escapists, any tales of horror that you'd like to share? Have you encountered something else that completely spoiled the experience within the first hour?

Solve my maze.

I don't remember them saying Luke was a prodigy. Anyway- that's nothing. There are a few Sith Lords who can literally destroy a planet from orbit using nothing but the force. Starkiller is low on the foodchain.

Anyway...! I couldn't play Record of the Agarest War Zero. Just...everything. The battle system was some kind of turn based strategy board, which sounds cool, but in practice it was REALLY freakin' annoying. You had to line up your units in really precise patterns to make sure all of them were in each other's 'field' (Not easy), and even then, every character that wasn't the main character was practically worthless. BUT GOD HELP YOU IF YOU DON'T USE THE OTHERS AS MEATSHIELDS/POWER UPS FOR THE MAIN CHARACTER.

If a game has platforming in a 3D space, you better give me control of the camera.
Main offender: God of War

Pissed me off to no end.

Mortar - Battlefield 3. Its just so annoying if they get you without warning, but if one doesn't kill you, one word.
RUN.
There are atleast 20 more hitting that damn spot.

An open world game without a good map and/or fast travel system...

Looking at you Far Cry 2, who in the right mind puts all the fast travel stations on the edges of the map all the quests are given in the centre town you idiot!

Don't even get me started on the fucking map! At least it taught me that driving while map reading is the worst idea ever. Both irl and in games.

Quite funny that I thought about this topic about 5h ago after I played 1h of the following game:

Force Unleashed 1. Since the force is a feature of nearly all Star Wars games I count it here.

The poor balance of the force in this game killed my fun in it. From the beginning it is so much better than the lightsabre (seriously, why can people take two hits of this thing?).
Because they are made out of Spectacularanium. KotOR explained it in the tutorial section when you ask how you'd survive against a Dark Jedi. I forgot the actual name of the metal Vibroblades are made out of, though. But they make armor out of it too.

linear 1 path to the goal made by invisible walls drives me nuts. forcing the player to use a particular weapon before allowing the game to continue. Yeah i wont play COD.

The underwater fight in Monster Hunter Tri. The movement control were horrid which doesn't help that you have to kill a monster while being underwater.
This is made worse that the monster Lagiacrus has a shockwave attack that doesn't electrocuted you when you're underwater. Ok yes this is a good thing since otherwise it's a game over but it shouldn't use that attack in the first place if they didn't intend to OHKO the players. So by having a electric attack underwater is unrealistic at all (ok sure there are plenty of unrealistic stuff in the game but this one just break the immersion).

Bad dubbing with no native language option (i.e. the original language of the game). We've all played these games. It doesn't matter how good the mechanics are to me if hearing the characters talk sounds like nails on a chalkboard.

Nothing ruins a game for me quicker than female characters who take the Michelle Rodriguez path of trying to look and act like a badass as much as possible, but just looking like a god damned poser who is trying way too hard. Hate those kinds of female characters, they just irritate me to no end.

Boring, pointless "minigames" to flesh out gameplay. Most glaring example I can think of right now is scanning planets in ME2.
Artificial difficulty. For example, enemies with more health than is realistically possible in a shooter. At some point the lead to flesh ratio in your face should at least make you collapse under the weight of it if not kill you outright.
That or gameplay mechanics that try to play at making the game difficult but just end up making it more annoying while touting how hardcore of an experience the game is.

When I am attempting to do something and a NPC says the same line constantly telling me what to do. I KNOW GODDAMMIT. I'M WORKING ON IT. Like in Kingdom Hearts 2 (I believe) and in Endwar specifically.

Oh, I remember while playing the first Moder Warfare on the hardest difficulty, towards the end they tell you to pop some smoke grenades so you can sneak up on and plant explosives on tanks. Well, you can't do that without getting shot if you don't take out all the enemies first, of which there are a lot. So I spent a good long while hearing them tell me to pop some smoke over and over and over again.

Tutorials, I have been gaming for about 16 years ... I know x is jump and pushing forward on the analogue stick will make me move forward. Stop making me endure these trivial trials and make them skipable.

I wouldn't say ruined, because these games had decent to excellent merits on their own...

Mass Effects, both 1 and 2, the Mako and Shooting stupid probes.

Kingdom Hearts (was it one or two or both, can't remember) the lego spaceship.

Rage/Facepalm inducing to the max.

Switching cameras on me. I mean, goddamn, I run ahead and then suddenly I run to the side because the camera view turned.

It makes me rage quit especially when running over a bridge or something and I have to constantly adjust to whatever changes the game makes for me. I know that some jumps are better made with a side camera and some better with a camera from above, but goddamn it, at least give me an option to make it fixed. I'll do the rest.
