I remember getting pretty creeped out during the mansion mission in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. At one point, you climb up some stairs, only to have them collapse and you fall a couple stories into the basement.

I remember trying to convince myself that I was this big badass vampire, why the hell should I be afraid of a few paintings flying off the wall at me.

Also, I'm a sucker for crappy controls. I'm not ashamed to admit that I won't even touch the Fatal Frame games.

Run around. Stop. Turn towards the ghost. Press a button to bring up the camera. Fumble around in first person view. Oh no, it's not inverted! Die.

Portal it was eerie with it's Artificial Intelligence and The pristine labs with sinisterness all round I almost felt inside that world when I turned it off too.

Silent Hill 3, the only Silent Hill game I've played. It was creepy as Hell, and one moment in particular is burned into my mind as the scariest experience I've had in a game.

In fallout 3 in the subway tunnels the gouls would pop out sometimes making me jump.
It's that growl noise they make as well, fucking scares the shit out of me lol. Also another game that scares me is Dead Space, but the more u play, the less it scares u.

Fatal Frame, particularly II (it got a bit easier to kill ghosts in III). It is the only game I've stopped playing because I was too frightened.

This is a little more obscure, but does anyone remember The 7th Guest on the PC? I think it was the first game that really scared the pants off me. The painting at the top of the stairs was what really did it for me. It looks silly by today's standards, but the entire mansion was nightmare fuel for my impressionable 3-year old mind.
There was one level in that game where you saw this CREEPY CREEPY video of this newborn baby laying next to some demon baby in this creepy goth crib thing. Still gives me goosebumps like 15 years later.

Also SH2 - scariest game ever (Even though the Mummy children from the school in SH1 always were scary)

I must say, Ravenholm is pretty freaky, Not because "Oh hi zombie swarm" but "Hey buddy, there could be a zombie 'round here, but you never know when it might OH GOD IUT'S CLAWING MY FACE OFF!"

You know, subtle like that.

No game has really every scared me, just slightly startled.

Although the "Fear" games somewhat startled me a lot.

For a while I was terrified to play through Ravenholm in Half-Life 2, to the point that I used a cheat code to skip that chapter. I played it through for the first time recently and found it to be quite fun, but not at all scary.

I played the Dead Space demo and discovered that not only was it devoid of scariness, it was almost predictable.

I used to crap myself at anything that had gore in it, now only lack of humanity scares me.

Renting Condemned: Criminal Origins was perhaps not the best choice I've ever made.

Yeah Half Life 2's Ravenholme is particularly disturbing too. F.E.A.R. is probably my all time scariest mainly because it plays with your mind. That game will f* you up. The bit on the ladder when you turn around and see Alma made me wet myself ¬_¬ it's towards the earlier parts of the game

Condemned was definitely pretty scary, but I remember playing Silent Hill back on the original PlayStation. Granted I was very young, but I could never get past the school. It creeped me out.

Same....I stopped trying pretty quickly too, that radio and the darkness and the sudden burst of enemy just freaked me the hell out. I stopped playing it and never ever touched the game again.

Silent Hill 2 wins my vote. I coudn't sleep for 2 days.

Note* I would like to add Silent Hill 1. It didn't help with the fact I was 10 at the time.
