Audiosurf: If you like music at all, get this. It's a very fun way to listen to it.
Seconded. Very fun in a simple guitar hero kinda way

Call of Duty: Black Ops: Forget the haters. If you like FPS games at all, you should love this game's multi-player. Tons of customization, an RPG style system of leveling, and constant close-range combat. Dodge the single-player in this as well, because it's very average. And I found the first level to be plain offensive.
I'd give it a miss personally, worth nowhere near the $90 on steam. See if you can grab COD4 instead, it's basically identical as far as gameplay goes, and nowhere near as expensive. Plus you get a decent SP campaign as well

Battlefield BC2 is a steal at the $20 price point and the Vietnam expansion is $15 well spent IMO and extends the game by another 5 maps.
IMO BC2:V is not worth it. I didn't find anything worth $15 in it. IF you can find BC2 for $20 grab it, but the multiplayer might be a bit lacking for you.
Go and get the Orange Box. You can't get better value than HL2+EP1+EP2 with Portal and TF2 for $30.
The best bet to find some good, cheap games is to wait for the steam sales. Personally, I always grab the indie game packs (5 games for $5). Sure they aren't all going to be brilliant games, but there's usually one gem in each pack.
Other games to watch for in the sales are:
COD2: decent SP and a good solid shooter;
Alpha Protocol: Plot's a bit hard to follow, bit badly designed in places but reasonable enough to be occasionally fun
Prince Of Persia Trilogy: Sands of Time is brilliant, Warrior Within is average and Two Thrones is a tad iffy. But they do platforming right and are worth playing, if only once.
Oh, and don't forget to grab one of the free packs on steam. Nvidia [http://www.steampowered.com/nvidia/] and ATI [http://steampowered.com/ati_offer1a/].
