Seeing as how I don't drink or do drugs, I can't really say.

I do dislike it when people I rely on to do their job are underperforming / not performing at all due to drunkenness, though.

The classic example would be people dicking around in WoW raids, though I've also been subjected to the same in numerous shooters.

It's not always that bad, like if you're just having a bit of fun playing Modern Warfare 2. Especially if you're in Free For All.

But when you're trying to teamwork in SWAT4 and some idiot keeps shooting the hostages 'cus he's too drunk to tell the difference between a guy in a white lab coat and a big, burly man wielding an AK47, with a set of kevlar and a tactical vest... then I get annoyed.

I've even had a guy I play Arma 2 with crash a blackhawk, killing two four-man fireteams, a squad leader and a medic, his copilot, crew chief and himself, because he was drunk at the stick. Basicly, 20% of the people participating in the game had to sit and wait for an hour and a half, because he showed up to the game drunk, and didn't inform people that he shouldn't be put in a sensitive position that day.

Needless to say, a fair few of us let him hear for that.

You make video games sound like such serious shit. Honestly, ur talking about games the way someone would talk about work.

To be honest, I'm not even sure how to respond to that.

Both SWAT4 and Arma 2 requires people to take the game seriously, in order to beat it.

Both of them requires trigger discipline and fast thinking, as well as the ability to teamwork, and follow orders down a chain of command.

In the case of Arma 2, we play fifty people for four hours, two days a week.

We use a fairly standard USMC structuring of 3 4-man fireteams, a medic and a Leader to each Squad, and we have three squads on a regular basis.

Add to that the people acting as aerial insertion pilots and close air support, as well as overwatch, and the odd mortar, sniper or heavy gunner team...

Well, you do the math.

As you may have noticed me saying, it's not that bad in a game like Modern Warfare, 'cus it's a game that's designed for people to dick around in.

But Arma 2 is a Mil Sim. Military Simulator. People who engage in that on a regular basis are serious people, who take what they do seriously.

I played Sands of Time drunk a year or so ago. On the same night I also played Wii Tennis with family. Again, horribly drunk. I remember that I lost several times and wondered why.

i wouldn't play any of the metal slug games drunk, they're difficult enough as it is
Heh. The club I used to go to in Manchester had a small arcade section with Metal Slug (II?). Me and and my mate could never get very far for some reason...

Playing an RPG drunk generally leads to very, very bad circumstances.

I'll just leave this here...

Gears of War 2...mostly because in my first year of university I made a drinking game called Beers of War. Basically, you play Gears and everytime you kill something, you take a drink (co-op works very well too, especially when you play with 'opposite day' rules, where everything your teammate kills forces you to take a drink). Anyway, my old roommate and I wanted to work on Beers of War 2, until we realized that there were far more enemies in that game and we'd probably be dead from alcohol poisoning before we got to the first boss.

You've never really beaten General RAAM until you've done it on Veteran with an angry, swearing drunk Italian man (my old roommate) helping you out.

I once tried playing Killer7 while doped up on painkillers for a broken leg. For a brief moment I could see the color twelve and taste purple. It was magnificent.

Katamari...it's strange enough as it is, I'd probably kill myself if I was intoxicated by anyting while playing that game.
