Best:

PC FPS, Stealth

perfect genres that i love to play and would never sick. PC FPS and stealth games i cant choose which is better but they both make best of experience. and combination like Deus Ex give me perfect gaming experience

Just play (part timer):

RTS and other genres likes action games, TPS.

I love RTS but i dont play them much, just part timer RTS gamer.

Hate:

Console FPS, JRPG, Platformer, Fighting:

Console FPS is imo by far one of the worst gaming genre ever. console FPS are not only console exclusive but are avaliable on PC too like COD, bioshock.

Fighting games are just waste of time imo. what the point of buying game 2 people head to head kick, punch etc

platformers: i used to like them when i was kid but not now anymore they are too colorful for my taste

JRPG: cant stand the look of it. animu stuff etc.

anyways whats yours???

Apart from the console vs PC shtick you threw in there I'd say mine are:

I love FPS, RTS, Stealth, RPG, Tower Defense type, Action, Racing, Puzzle etc.

I sometimes like role play games but not often.

The few I dislike are:

RTT (really dislike most turn based games apart from FF or FE and Disgaea), Hardcore (games where you lose everything including saves etc), Rouge likes (again like hardcore), twitch shooters, simulators, visual novels etc.

Thing is even though I have my faves and dislikes I'm finding this year and part of next year isn't exactly filling me with titles for my fave genres that I desire, the upcoming Lotr game for example is more like DS and that threw me right off and straight into the dislike pile, I also had hopes for Evolve but over time that went into the pile too, same with Watchdogs.

RTS would be my most favourite of all genres though it doesn't help that we're not getting many RTS games these days apart from PA and Grey Goo =/.

I'm not sure what you mean by "console shooter" considering that your two examples, Call of Duty and Bioshock have literally no mechanical or design similarities besides being first person and involving shooting.

I really don't know where I'd put what genres, honestly. I guess RPGs are my favourites, but it's such a broad category and all my favourite RPGs (Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Planescape: Torment and Avernum: Escape From The Pit amongst them) have virtually nothing in common besides stats and levelling.

As for worst, I don't really tend to play sports simulators, but I've been known to enjoy them on occasion. For 'hardcore' genres, I'm not a huge shooter fan because I tend to prefer melee combat, but there are some shooters I really love, like Half-Life and Vanquish so I dunno.

As for 'just-play' I play more or less all of them. Point 'n' click adventures, hack 'n'slashers, puzzle games, whatever. I tend to find *something* that interests me in all of them. I used to write-off "realistic" (read: none-kart) racing games, but then I grew to really love Grid and a couple of Need For Speed games.

I can like just about anything. Not a big fan of sim and racing. The only thing I truly dislike are "visual novels".

I love RPGs, western and Japanese, in theory. The only problem is I have trouble keeping my attention on a story for more than 15 - 20 hours. I was really enjoying Planescape Torment for example but just sort of stopped playing it after 15 hours. Been meaning to go back and restart it for about 4 years now. But while I play them and when I do get through them I love'em.

I LOVE Castlevania but just sort of play other platformers usually, they're alright.
I like old school shooters, but I really need to have WASD movement. Halo is my cut off point.

Can never get into "build things" "make your own fun" games like Minecraft. They're so boring to me. And if I wanted to make art I'd make something I could keep and display and enjoy later.

My taste have changed over the years as gaming has changed.

Love:

jrpgs. The fantastical setting is usually what does it for me, though the power of friendship is heavily overplayed.

Fighting games. Nothing better than duking it out man to man and letting the best man win.

Ok

FPS. I get bored with these quick, but it's always fun to shoot things.
Turn based japanese role playing games. Nothing much to say, they are fun and unique.

Hate:

Wrpgs. too much tolkien. Dwarves , elves , orc are overdone and boring.
Sports/racing. I hate sports.
RTS. I can't micromanage to save my life.

Tend to be OK with most genres.

Just play:

The closest is probably FPS. I've always believed that, compared to other genres, FPS can be inherently limiting. With that limited perspective and the even further limiting of most likely being given a long ranged weapon of some sort, it takes a very creative person to make something new and relatively original. The whole genre is just so repetitive and one-note now. I don't find tweaks to recoil and things like that on the same level as far more reaching gameplay tweaks in other genres. It's too small of a detail to make the game feel funner, improved, or infinitely different than before EVEN if I do notice. It seems almost petty.

Hate:

Closest to hating is probably racing. Even more one-note than FPS. I've never played Mario Kart, but I have played Crash Bandicoot: Team Racing, so I'd go for those sort of racers. Pure racers though? Blegh. I only have one in my entire gaming collection.

Judging by his post history, I'm just going to take a wild shot and say that a 'console shooter' is anything less complicated than Arma 3, and anything less pretty than Crysis 1.
no console shooters are scripted, cinematic QTE fest. now compare Stalker to COD4 as both games are released on same year. you will see a huge difference.

and about bioshock. that game was poor mans system shock 2.

Western RPGs, both action RPG and cRPGs, would be my overall favourite. I also enjoy old school FPS games as well, such as the old Build engine shooters up to the WWII shooters, as well as the sadly underrated and forgotten gem Vietcong (which was ruined by a trashy sequel). I also liked the first F.E.A.R. and its two expansions, but that's about as modern as I go with FPS games.

Genres I find okay are Age of Empires-esque RTS games. Thing is, I quite enjoy the idea of them and find them fun, but by Lucifer's buttfucking horns am I terrible at them. I just can't play them well to save my life, even against the AI. But I still enjoy them from time to time.

I wouldn't really say I hate any genres, to be honest, but ones I avoid would be JRPGs and anything with similar anime-derived art styles. The game may have great mechanics, but if I can't get past the art design.. well. Graphical quality is one thing, and it doesn't have to be a good looker for me, but the art style/design certainly has to appeal to me, which JRPGs do not. So that's a pretty large slew of games I dislike right there. All of the artsy stuff as well I tend to avoid, since they seem to be more story-involved with minimal gameplay or are really low budget indie games.

MMOs as well. Mostly because I've very little interest in multuplayer, but every MMO also seems to boast an ugly art design as well as contain some pretty unappealing business practices. So yeah, I avoid that stuff.

Point and clicks as well, I guess. Just find them pretty boring.

I tend to love turn based strategy, wargames, tactical games like x-com, simulations(rare to find ones that are just right),rpgs and games that make me think

for me the take it or leave it: simulations (they are either so complicated these days you need a degree or so simple they treat you as an idiot)/ military FPS.. no not call of duty, things like ARMA

the genres i hate are: sports games where people arent murdered, racing games, platformers, jrpgs, RTS (used to love them, dont know what changed there),fighting games, most games on the console actually come to think of it.

I've enjoyed games in most of the genres, but I guess my favorites would be turn-based JRPGs, tactical RPGs, and old-school arcade shmups (e.g. Gradius, R-Type, others by Konami, Toaplan, Psikyo, etc...). For me, these games have always provided the most interesting challenges and often tend to feature my favorite soundtracks.

I've enjoyed my fair share of shooting, fighting, RTS, racing, sports, puzzle, and rhythm games, but I tend to suck at them and don't go out of my way to check them out.

Things I don't care for:
What Yahtzee once referred to as hacko/slasho/button-masho, which for me also includes action-RPGs like Tales and Star Ocean.
Games with spastic AI allies
Overly-linear JRPGs
Motion-controlled games
Beat-em-ups (they were okay when I was 13, but not really anymore)
Online multiplayer

I wonder if the OP would burst into flames if he didn't try to turn all of his threads into PC vs. Console shit?

Fav: Probably RPGs or Action/Adventure games. I'm a pretty big fan of The Assassin's Creed series, Uncharted, and a few other action games. For RPGs, I usually enjoy the more mainstream ones. I'm not a big fan of Risen or Gothic, but I love my Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age.

Just Play: Strategy and shooters. Strategy games I suck at, but I still for some reason purchase them frequently and play them all the time. Shooters are a nice little distraction when I just want to fuck shit up. Like when I play Battlefield.

Hate: None really, maybe puzzle? I really don't play games to think and when that is all a game is, we may clash a bit.

They STALKER and CoD arent even the same god damn genre. Neither are Bioshock or System Shock.

Stalker is an open world game, for one. A fairer comparison would be with Far Cry.

Second, System Shock is a god damn RPG, and I dont recall a single QTE in the entirety of Bioshock. Or in any Halo game, barring the ending of 4.

You know, I just bought Planescape and a couple Gothic games off GoG the other day. Not to mention other great PC games I had already like Divinity: Original Sin, Torchlight 2, Witcher 1, Arma 3, Age of Wonders 3, A bunch of Total War games, Euro Truck Simulator 2, and that's not even all of them.

And you know, I want to play them, but thanks to your PC elitism, I'm not going to. Instead, I'm going to turn on my Wii U and pop in Xenoblade for some 'animu' JRPG greatness. Then I'll head over to my PS3 and kick robot ass with some Gundam Vs.
Then I may even play some Killzone, and I dont even like it that much. All just to spite you.
i don't get this attitude.
"i don't like your Elitism so instead of playing games i want to play on the PC i'm going to play games i want to play on Consels. Grrr take that Elitist snob"
i don't get how this is supposed to harm him.

Favorite - Action/adventure (incredibly broad spectrum there I know) for the multitude of wonderful experiences I've had, RPGs for their narrative and player agency and MOBAs/fighting/Strategy for demanding the absolute most of me and driving me to be competitive.

Just play - Shooters as they rarely hold my interest past a few hours. Sports games I'll only play with friends, never on my own. Platformers can definitely enthrall me but I have to be in such a particular mood to want to play them.

Hate is a strong word but I really have no interest in them - Sim racers and flight sims. I appreciate the complex systems and realism but it just doesn't hold me.
