I'd like the point-and-click adventure to make a comeback, sans the nonsensical puzzles. Games like The Walking Dead and Life is Strange are technically "spiritual successors" to those kinds of games with their explorative moments and focus on characters, but they generally want to be action-packed with QTEs too. Something like the original Broken Sword or The Longest Journey would be great (the recent Broken Sword 5 was alright but there was way too much fanservice with recurring characters and nods to previous games).
Take a look at Wadjet Games Library. I'm a fan of the old P+C Adventure games from the 1990's(grew up on Sierra and Lucasarts) and their games have pretty much hit the spot for me. Daedalic's games aren't bad either, though I tend to like them a little less.

Mascot platformers.

I'm talking Spyro, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (Which just got a remake on Steam in Early fucking Access for some reason) Crash Bandicoot, Gex, Awesome Possum, hell I'd even count Ratchet and Clank (which is still an okay series that still exists.)

I feel that these games are perfect introductions to the world of video games for children. Not adequate introductions, not acceptable introductions, not really fucking incredible introductions. PERFECT introductions. And while they're just the most incredible genre of kids game imaginable, I look at classic mascot platformers like Spyro as something like a Harry Potter. Harry Potter was a series of books created with children in mind, but the quality of the series was good enough that anyone of any age could enjoy the living fuck out of it.

The games that some folks refer to as "character-action" - a la Devil May Cry, God of War, etc.

While not necessarily a "comeback", there have been very few of these types of games in the past few years.

Daraksiders was a fantastic franchise, IMO. And I hope whoever holds the reigns on that actually does something with the license in the relative future, before all interest is lost in the series.
Just for clarity, do you mean almost everything Platinum makes? If so the mostly agreed upon term is spectacle fighter.

Older shooters.

Specifically the Arena FPS

With bots.

And no ironsights.

No stamina either, because you sprinted all the time.

And I miss fluid crosshair console shooters like Perfect Dark and Timesplitters. So different from their PC bretheren but so much fun as well. Shooters on consoles nowadays just seem like a poor man's PC port. Guns seemed so much more real and physical when they followed your aim around the screen, firing in whatever direction you held them, rather than this rigid shoulder mounted style (which admittedly works flawlessly on PCs).

No one has mentioned space flight sims? Like X-Wing and TIE Fighter? Shame on all of you!

You know what? Forget bringing that genre back. Just give me more X-Wing and TIE Fighter. I'll be happy with that. As it stands, Ace Combat is the closest thing to those that comes out now, and while fun, it's not the same.
Pretty much this. Modern flight games tend to fall into one of two categories; absurdly simple arcade shooter or so complex that you need a doctorate just to get off the ground.

I want a return to flight sims of the late 80's to mid 90's, games like Tie Fighter, Red Baron and Chuck Yeager's Air Combat to name a few. Titles that struck a balance between the extremes of arcade and hardcore sim, with multiple difficulty and realism options to tweak to one's liking. Flight games that didn't hold your hand, but didn't lose sight of the fun factor either.
Completely Agree. If they made another X-Wing series game I could just about die happy. And I know exactly what you mean about that sweet spot balance between arcade and sim. The games you mentioned (Along with Crimson Skies on the PC) epitomised that in the sky/space, and I found that Driver was the perfect incarnation of that philosophy on the ground.

I dunno, just anything set in more exotic-ish settings.
Anyone here know were I can get an equivalent to Jade Empire? I mean I've just started Way of The Samurai 4 and its goofiness gives me a similar vibe but otherwise that's it. Anyone know what I can play to get a similar experience or is that just a once in a lifetime thing?

There are a handful of Chinese mmos that have a look and feel of jade empire, but you know they are mmos.

Another vote for old style stealth games.
None of this "oh, I got seen, better just murder everyone obviously instead of sneakily".

If you get spotted in a stealth game your options should be to run away and hide or die.

Open world (-ish) adventure games like Monkey Island, rather than linear sequences of obvious puzzles + QTEs ala Telltale.

The ones without microstransactions or DLC would be a nice return to form...

Besides that, though, maybe more crazy FPS games in the mold of Time Splitters. I really miss Time Splitters. That series never got enough love. :(
