There's no doubt that Other M effectively "killed" Samus' character for us fans.
So i'm just wondering what Nintendo could possibly do with the franchise after this.

I honestly can't think of anything to recover from how Other M's story butchered one of the most iconic characters in gaming.

Gameplay was pretty fun though.

It is called a retcon. I see them employing this tactic if they ever make a canonical game that takes place after Other M.

I want a Metroid Prime 4 that is not 3 that has absolutely nothing to do with Other M.

Just shut her up and get back to form. Declare it non-canon and it's done. I doubt many would complain...

Where does Other: M fall on the timeline? It's one of the later ones, right?

Since I'm sure it is, any other Metroid games will just come before it.

A reboot is more likely.
Thought never crossed my mind, for some reason. You are probably right. This is Nintendo we are talking about. Who needs new and creative IPs?

Nintendo CAN get new and creative WITH their own IPs.

Pretty sure thats how the Zelda and Mario games work.

Hasn't failed yet.

It's between Super and Fusion so it's second to last.

I think that the series should continue the story after Fusion. Other M is my favorite game in the series so I'd like Other M style gameplay with more exploration like Super. I liked the story and Samus's in Other M so seeing that come back would be nice but uneeded.

Do you remember what CocaCola did a long time ago to make itself more popular than Pepsi?

...

Man I'm old......

They took an already good product and then released one called 'New Coke!' out of nowhere with all sorts of fancy labels and commercial advertising. New Coke, it turned out, was freaking awful. People started campaigning for the old coke to come back. They loved the old recipe, and they definitely didn't want the new one.

So Coke eventually conceded and released CocaCola Classic.

The attention given to CocaCola over this debacle was huge. Coke's popularity rose dramatically and it won out over Pepsi and other companies for a time.

Now that I've given a random history lesson, let's compare that to Metroid.

Metroid had something really good; they had Metroid Prime. Metroid Prime 3 being the best and most popular. Then they went with 'a different recipe' by hiring a different team to do the next Metroid. Saying this was the 'real Samus' and that it would be insanely popular. All sorts of advertisements and hype were made over Other M. Then it was released and no one liked it.

The best move Nintendo can do right now is release a Metroid that goes back to Metroid Prime-like basics. Or perhaps do a 2d Metroid for the 3DS and call it... say... Metroid Classic!

Wait, some of you are complaining that Other M killed the story of Samus because she wasn't the super powerful lone protagonist you made her out to be? Wasn't this the same Samus that at the end of Metroid 2 didn't kill the last of the metroids because it was an infant and thought she was its mother? By the same logic of Other M ruining her stoic nature, that would mean any hardened female will cave the second a crying baby is introduced.

It goes on?

One bad game on it's record isn't going to stop this series.

It's never really been about the story or characters. It's been about backtracking through old areas with new powers to find upgrades and become uber badass.

Probly move one to a reboot or a like story minus all the voice acting/dumb narrative.

Why not start with the beginning? A mix of finding her, incorporating her in the military and missions on 3 or 6 separate worlds that make her the great enemy of the space pirates?

The narrative would work from her perspective in a cold new yet familiar environment. IE her frist contact with the space marines or a colony or the human powers that be, after shes given the suit, they watch her from a distance and let her scurry about and explore the base/colony/area with basic suit powers(something like the zero suit but with rag cloths or poncho over it) Shes small so when she figures out ball mode its kind her in a ball like fetal position in a energy ball that warps her size a bit. Every suit power is new and limited, missiles are simple homing/seeking dubs, to shoot the blaster she has to charge it first. Most of her child fights are against cleaning or maintenance bots, they see each other as a nuance, she wants to explore scavenge and they want to clean/repair and observe her.

Militarily training is short and sweet her going through a simple mission with a Space marine team that ends with a wild Ripley blowing up a few things and escaping with something he had a few scuffs with her where she was left alive and each fight his hatted for her grows this spurns him no to join the space pirates.

Then you get the normal missions across 4-8 worlds, each world has a completely different environment, you investigate a site and are given orders as you go.Suit powers are paced via damage and just learning about the suit and the ancient chozo.

Now you minimize the silent protagonist bit by giving her simple 3 answers to all or most questions which are answered by action versus talking, the hud gives you 2-3 locations to go to shoot, ect(move to,move away, shoot object, ceiling, ect) or just have a dailog answer to select and she dose the action after.

She should not talk, why? Look at Metroid:AM its bad enough they will want to make random crap around her speak adding to the horror by making her speak pretty much kills the series that much more.

MP3 was rather weak FYI.

Still vastly superior to Other M, which had the addition of horrid gameplay and controls to go with it's horrid story and characters.

I got it! Nintendo (themselves) steal everything that was good about Other M (there were a few good things, too bad the crap overshadowed it) and make "Other Other M (Galaxy of Zelda 3-Vania... Prime. heh)". The story about the "Real" Samus Aran (that other one was a fake/clone/evil twin/Metroid-sting induced hallucination... whatever) and what she was "really" doing during the events of Other M (aka: the time shortly after Super Metroid).

Though I'd settle for discontinuing the franchise (at least for now) and having the entire writing team (including and especially the director) from Other M flogged... but not less than that.

Or hang it and turn the series into Kid Icarus games like they did the first time.
