Generally darkness helps me fall asleep, but I specifically fall asleep to music. My mother was a musician in a symphony orchestra in Toronto, so she brought me to her practices late at night, which had me falling asleep to a whole orchestra going full out. Example: What helps me go to sleep is the sound of rain. It comforts me knowing that I am warm and dry inside. Also, a hard days work or a few days of bad insomnia earlier will let be sleep pretty quickly.

Haven't tried that, but I've tried a ton of other things. Def try food about 30 minutes before you plan on going to bed. Can help, has for me before.
